What we like about the school

Location: Violeta Parra Escuela de Idiomas - TANDEM Santiago, is located in the Chilean capital city of Santiago. Housed in a beautiful mansion built in the early 20th century, the school is moments walk from Providencia Avenue, with excellent access to some of the city's main attractions and green spaces. The great Park Tapahue is within a 20-minute walk of the schools front doors, offering students an excellent opportunity to see and enjoy many attributes of the large metropolitan garden space, including the Japanese Gardens, extraordinary views of the city from the parks funicular cable cars, and a number of large public swimming pools. Salvador Metro Station is within a 4-minute walk of the school, ensuring excellent access to the city and the surrounding areas.
Course selection: Course selection at Violeta Parra Escuela de Idiomas consists of Intensive, Super Intensive and General one-to-one or two-to-one programmes, along with a Crash course combining group and individual lessons. The school offers complete packages of courses and accommodation for any student or group with such a preference.

"Partly due to circumstances, I have had many different teachers and most of them are very theoretical and focused on grammar. Whereas in most cases the students are doing it to prepare for their journey. There should be more focus on talking and listening!"

"Instructor- America is a provincial person with little knowledge of the greater world. When I asked her to explain to the class the difference between a la derecha and derechos, she refused and said I was giving her a rash with my politics. On another occasion when we were doing an exercise regarding colours I explained to America that subtle colour differences were becoming difficult to me as I am becoming colour blind, she laughed at the idea of colour-blindness, I don't think she had ever been exposed to this concept. In general, overtime America made me feel unwelcome and I did not finish the last afternoon class. "
Special note for 2025 holiday season: If you plan to take a course during the high season months of April, June, July or August 2025 we urgently advise you to book as early as possible. In 2024 many schools were fully booked during the holidays, and the situation is unlikely to be different for 2025 due to a current shortage of teachers, which affects most schools.

Other comments Overall it was an excellent experience that was only let down by the disorganization of the administrative staff. This includes being constantly asked for receipts to prove that i'd paid when there really is no need if things are organized properly. Overall it has been a fantastic experience with high quality teaching and excellent out of class activities which made it easy to settle in and meet people.

About the city, once you've gotten used to the different cleanliness standards in whole Chile and the low care about broken and unfixed things, you will start to love the people and the country!

There is something I didn't like about the accommodation.
I had to change accommodation because The Bella Vista Hostel is one of the most horrible places i have ever seen in my life. Really bad organised, they don't speak Spanish but the worst part is related to the cleaning conditions of the "rooms". A lot of rubbish and very low quality of service.
I think it is an excellent place for horror movies. Then, I moved to the Monte Verde Apart Hotel, great quality and excellent service.

In weeks, with 1 holiday, up to 4 lost group classes will be recovered adding one additional class daily on super intensive programmes and 2 days of 2 classes in case of intensive course programme. The crash course is not held on weeks with holidays.
All courses include: Welcome; 3 free social activities per week; and a certificate at the end.

“First day of school: The group courses usually start every Monday at 9:30. The morning is divided into two double lessons of 90 minutes each with a break of 30 minutes between 11:00 and 11.30. If you have not been able to send us your level test by e-mail in advance you should be at school at 9:00 to take it before the start of class.”
