The former regions of Aquitaine, Limousin and Poitou-Charentes were joined in 2016 to form Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The region is found in the South West of France, with it's coastline running along the Bay of Biscay. The Dune du Pilat is the largest sand dune in Europe and is on the shores of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Bordeaux is the capital city of the province and has the Garonne River running through it's centre. Bordeaux Cathedral, Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux and the Place de la Bourse are often visited by those exploring the city. Nouvelle-Aquitaine is a popular wine region in France. The Cité du Vin is a museum in Bordeaux, which exhibits the wine in the region. Castelnaud-la-Chapelle Castle, the caves of Lascaux and The Marqueyssac gardens are found in the East of the region.
