of this, once, thriving market town, Berkhamsted. The Grand Junction Canal from the Thames River in London all the way to Birmingham runs through this, now, small town but previously the canal port was right at the epicentre of the country's trading systems. Now the pace of the the town is much slower with the main attraction being the Medieval Castle, nice picturesque strolls along the canal, a glance into the past at one of the listed shop fronts or delve into the towns literature links including inspiration for both J.M.Barrie's Peter Pan and a character of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury tales. It also is home to the oldest archery club in England.
