Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The school has a good culture of learning and is located in the vibrant town of Malaga in a location that is away from the traffic.
Negative aspects
The facilities are a little cramped for the number of students attending, particularly when there are large classes outdoors as well as the indoor classes.
City/place
A city with interesting history, museums, and opportunities for walking and exploring.
Quality of teaching / language progress
It was nice to have a mix of people from different countries, but also to have post-university students in their late 20s and early 30s. Perhaps it should be called "mature students" - 50+ age should not be a restriction.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Good teaching, location and value for money
Negative aspects
Needed a library, larger social area (café) as hot outside, not the best at communicating activities as I missed the deadline for the weekend one. Student base too heavily from one country (Germany) which all form large groups and socialise with themselves, speaking in German - needs to be advertised a more varied demographic in this respect.
Quality of teaching / language progress
Teacher speaks too fast in Spanish for A2 level.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Very good grammar lessons. Conversation with interactive methods also very good for 50+ learners.
Negative aspects
For better preparation, it would be useful to get the grammar book online beforehand, so that you can prepare the exercises according to your level or information in advance about which chapter to start from.

Positive aspects of school
The teachers were friendly and very competent.
Negative aspects
I thought it was wrong to ask the future students to fill in a form, where we had to tell them which type of teaching we value and how much homework we are prepared to do - the school has in no way taken what I filled out into consideration.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The experience overall was exceptional. Teachers were very motivated, friendly and organized. The classes had a good size, around 6-8 students depending on the days. On the first day I found out that with 4 hours (4x50min) of classes, you have 2h of grammar and 2h of conversation. It is a very good split, the teachers adapt very well to the level of the class and keep everyone involved. The school is a bit up the hill about 300m from the sea with fabulous views from the bright classrooms and the terraces. I can definitely recommend Debla.
Negative aspects
Nothing negative to tell.
City/place
Lots of sites and monuments to see, tons of restaurants and bars to go out, very friendly people, which is really good to practice Spanish in the shops and streets. I had no issues with safety. The city is kept very clean, e.g. after a huge storm, all the leaves and branches that fell off the trees were cleaned up the next day. Everything is very accessible by foot if you're staying at a place near the center.
Quality of teaching / language progress
The DELE exam preparation class that I took focused a lot on speaking and organizing a talk to prepare for the speaking part of the exam. The teachers were very challenging, which was exactly what I needed to make progress with my speaking.
Accommodation
I got a room at a great apartment that I shared with 4 other roommates. The apartment was very clean, just renovated, right down from the school and directly on the beach. My single room was tiny (about 7sqm or 80sqft, that's why I gave the room only 4 stars), but clean and sufficient to study with a courtyard view. The other 4 rooms were bigger and had views of the beach. Some minor inconveniences in the apartment, but the school remedied these within a day.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Inspiring and interested teachers
Negative aspects
This is not necessarily a criticism. I realised in a class of Italian, Danish, German and Chinese speaking students how much the Italians (and probably the French) are facilitated in the study of language. This implies a faster possibility of progress, at least at the initial level, than a class like the one I took part in. Very nice to meet and compare, but a very large gap in Spanish comprehension.
City/place
Very interesting, with many attractions, both cultural and natural. Lively and vibrant. Possibility of day trips.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The price/quality ratio, the location of the school, the organisation and facilities were very good. The excursion to Seville was very well organised, as was the city tour.
Negative aspects
I cannot rate the quality of the teaching as very good. The teachers spoke very quickly, so I often didn't understand the tasks and explanations. I was at level A2. The blackboards in the grammar section were not structured, it was written chaotically. I would have liked to see a coloured picture to memorise the word endings or something similar. The language section was okay, with good ideas.
City/place
Very much worth seeing! A city with a vibrant life, many interesting museums and very good transport connections by bus and train.
Accommodation
I liked the accommodation in the host family very much. Everything was clean and tidy. The food was also very good.

Good but was on a hell of a road up the mountain. If you have heart problems like me, it is very tough.
City/place
Very good, but maybe I'm too old to say anything about the nightlife. My nightlife was sleeping
Quality of teaching / language progress
Too large a group and too many people who had several weeks of course behind them mixed with complete beginners. Not an optimal solution right away. Didn't like when the course was in the evening, the day was ruined especially if you lived far from the school and had half board with lunch.

Positive aspects of school
I really like the culture of the school. It's small and friendly, and the teachers do their best to make you feel comfortable and part of the Debla family. The teachers are professional and courteous of everyone - we had a wide mix of cultures, age ranges in our class - and I always felt part of the class and made welcome. The grammar lessons were particularly strong and well structured - although quite challenging - which I liked! The teachers were really kind and funny - and made even difficult lessons great fun!
Negative aspects
This was my first experience of a language school and I think I had unrealistic expectations of what I could achieve in conversation classes. My grammar was at a higher level than my speaking and I felt that this impeded my learning and my conversation. I would recommend that someone considering a language school, ask questions about how conversation classes are run and how you might expect to improve, so your expectations are realistic.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
I would recommend this experience for anyone who is serious about learning languages - but you get out what you put in - so expect it to be hard work. I would also recommend that you search for an Intercambio (a native speaker that wants to learn English) to practice informal conversations in addition to having lessons at the school. This will help you build your confidence with native speakers. There are lots of websites where you can connect with people (safely) to do this. It's brilliant meeting classmates from all over the world. This is also something that makes the experience fascinating. Finally, think carefully about your accommodation. You might learn more quickly if you are living with a host family versus in student accommodation, where you might be with others that may not be able to communicate in Spanish due to their level.
Other comments
Overall a great school with passionate teachers and a good range of activities. I had an excellent 9 weeks at the school.
City/place
Malaga is a fabulous city to stay in for a short or longer time. It feels very safe. It's easy to walk about, and the public transport is brilliant and easy to navigate. There's lots to do, including historical sites, museums, theatres, the beach and walks along the seafront. I heard that the nightlife is excellent too!
Quality of teaching / language progress
4 x 50 min study per day was perfect for me, as I studied for 9 weeks at Debla. There was homework 3-4x per week, which could take you 1-2 hours, depending on your knowledge. It's essential to take the time to do this properly as it supports your work for the following day and reinforces what you have learnt in class. I expected it to be challenging and I would say it was slightly more difficult, and tiring, than I expected. This was primarily because of all the new vocabulary and grammar I was learning.

Positive aspects of school
Very nice people, good ambience, location very nice with good views, but exhausting to walk every day 8 minutes up the hill. You certainly don't want to do that 2x a day if you have deposited something there, since the school is also a bit outside the center.
Negative aspects
That everything only goes via the Internet such as appointment changes. If you don't look at your phone all the time, you're not informed. Changes to the program or schedule can be announced the day before in class? Regarding the accommodation, I would have expected it to be tested and known by the school - not just by phone. After a change: very good.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Cultural events, cooking courses and excursions - also on weekends.
Other comments
Unfortunately, the access on the hill a bit difficult - rewarded by a good view and no traffic noise.
City/place
Beautifully landscaped, with parks, plants, fountains, monuments, well-kept toilets!!! Overall, the city makes a clean well-kept impression, there is a relaxed, cheerful mood
Quality of teaching / language progress
Is there then a 50 + course? I was in a course with 17 year olds, 30 year olds and 70 year olds!
Accommodation
The landlady Merce is obviously dependent on the rental of her entire apartment for a living. But for that she would have to make a little more effort, especially with food (on the 3rd day I understood that I have to prepare myself the very spartan breakfast) and as dinner came a ready meal 2 min in the microwave - she never ate with me. Aurora, my 2nd hostess, was very kind, eager - was ready at any time - after my program - to prepare the delicious food and eat with me. The distance to the school and beach were optimal. I would gladly come back to her anytime.

Positive aspects of school
Small, accessible school, small classes, friendly teachers.
Negative aspects
Students change per week, therefore there is a difference in learned material, which causes delays. Many changing teachers, especially in the first week.
Other comments
I like the teachers, but sometimes it was a bit messy. Nevertheless, I had a good time, but I needed some time to adjust.
City/place
Nice city, even if you travel alone.
Quality of teaching / language progress
It was not clear that the activities did not take place with the class but with several schools. Class is a mix, sometimes also people of 17 or 18. I booked 2 more days of school for 32 euro per day. Remarkable because the 50 plus was above 500 for 2 weeks while there were hardly any large excursions that were included.

Positive aspects of school
The teachers were super nice and funny and it was fun to learn! I learned a lot in the 2 weeks and would have liked to have extended the time. The afternoon activities are not organized by the school itself, but by another organization that then offers them to all schools. As a result, the school does not have so many options to control what is on offer. Nevertheless, everything was there, from museums and beach volleyball tournaments to trips to Seville or Granada.
City/place
If you like a smaller city, Malaga is the place for you! The historic old town, where you live, is easy to explore on foot. Every time you discover new restaurants, tapas bars or ice cream parlors that you still want to try out. The Soho area is also fun to explore and the beaches anyway. It is highly recommended that you borrow a bike and explore both the beaches in the direction of Pedregalejo and in the west.
Accommodation
My flat share was great, the walls are relatively thin, but you can find new people very quickly. The location was also amazing because we were on a side street off the great Calle Marques de Larios. I was lucky that we had our apartment at the top of the house (including the roof terrace).

Positive aspects of school
The school's location, learning materials, teachers' preparation for the class, some teachers had a very motivating way of conducting the lessons. The organisation of the excursions with an amazing guide Lorenzo - the information was passed on in an understandable and interesting way. Nice atmosphere at the school.
Negative aspects
Additional activities inadequate to their price - entry to the Wine Museum costs 15 euros without a guide, where atthe place itself the price was 5 euros for tourists, 3 euros for groups - you could feel cheated. Flamenco classes without music, in a place unsuitable for such activities, interrupted by a long telephone conversation of the teacher - embarrassing. Too many explanations in English - people who did not know it felt lost, some classes lacked tasks integrating and activating the group
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
To learn Spanish you need to know English very well... Before departure you should check when the bank holidays fall as the classes do not take place on those dates (it is included in terms and conditions, but it can be missed)
City/place
Rich nightlife, interesting museums, sights, incredible fortresses, beautiful parks, very tasty food - specially fresh fish, clear sea, the beaches have a dull colour of grey sand but there are showers and clean toilets around.
Quality of teaching / language progress

Positive aspects of school
The atmosphere was wonderful because the staff created a relaxed and happy environment for us to enjoy our learning and the company of the other students in our group. The views from the terraces were lovely. We watched a squirrel running through an olive tree during our coffee break.

Malaga is stunningly beautiful. I took the open top red bus tour a couple of times and found the history fascinating. I also walked for hours along the pretty paved areas around the parks and gardens and explored the old City. I will always remember Malaga.

I learned a lot from my super tutors who put a huge amount of energy into helping me learn more about the language of Spain. The course was too advanced for me at this moment so I came home after the first week but as I live in Spain I can work at home to make the best use of my course work. Please thank my tutors. They were super!!!

During the time I attended the course, there were a lot of students from China who belong to a completely different culture.
