Positive aspects of school
I enjoyed a lot my five weeks in Kästner Kolleg. I actually could improve my German language thanks the special attention from the staff and teachers as well. It was fantastic my interaction with my classmates from many countries around the world. I could feel that students have a good atmosphere to learn and have fun.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Student support was excellent. There is a friendly, supportive atmosphere. The staff, administrative and teaching, showed flexibility and responsiveness to make the learning experience as successful as possible. Both Katrin and Patricia are excellent teachers.
Negative aspects
The physical facilities are okay, but a bit 'down at heels.' Not enough to affect the overall positive experience.
Other comments
Very warm, personal environment. Not 'institutional' or business-dominated.
Quality of teaching / language progress
It is indeed 'intense' to concentrate 4.5 hrs plus homework but the classes were well-managed. The time was carefully and consistently structured to vary the tempo and demands.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Try to start at the beginning of the course rather than joining mid-stream.
City/place
Great choice. The Elba is beautiful with stunning bike paths through meadows and fields following the river. For folks who like to cycle, this is your city.
Quality of teaching / language progress
Very professional, well organized & staff very helpful.
Accommodation
Public transportation can be problematic in the summer for students staying with Gastfamilies because of necessary construction and repairs. For students not comfortable with cycling to school, they may want to consider a closer lodging alternative.

Positive aspects of school
I had a lot of fun learning German at Kästner Kolleg. The teachers are very involved and the classes are formed in small groups (5 on average per class). Do not hesitate any longer, this is the school you need to progress in German.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Quality and professionalism of the teaching. Moved me up to a higher class in order to put me in a smaller class so I would have more opportunity to speak, even if it might have been one level too high.
City/place
Unfortunately, several of the major museums were closed for restoration.
Quality of teaching / language progress
I would have like more and better excursions.
Accommodation
A wonderful homestay with a gracious and very friendly hostess. We spent a lot of time talking in German and it was like an extra private lesson every day.

Accommodation
Homestay was in an interesting house. Delightful couple. The room looked spectacular but in practical terms it was not so good. No window coverings. Bright light all night. Lights operated by mobile phone which was cumbersome and irritating. The apartment at the school was very good. I was told on the first day a new bed would be installed. This did not happen. Existing couch was very old. However overall I enjoyed the space and privacy.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Before buying additional private lessons, it is better to attend a group course for a few days. 5 hours per day are already a hard job. I did the opposite and it was difficult for me. The course with 4 hours per day is the best option for me takinig into consideration the homework.
Other comments
I would like to have an internet connection with a higher speed and an access to the printer at the school. It would also be useful to reduce the group size up to 8 people. There were 12 students in my group and in my opinion it was a bit too much.

The size and the comfort of the space at my disposal; it is not obvious, because I was in some school - even prestigious - where every day I was wandering in a different classroom, being privileged group classes than individual
Other comments
I have not included an assessment of the social activities because I had my program of visits to make, and I was not interested in the school's one; but I saw that they aimed to engage the students, and if I was a little girl, and I'm not anymore, I would be interested in the activities proposed. I have also not included my review of the accommodation, because I was in a hotel chosen by me and where I had a great time.

If you choose to do a few weeks you are put into groups already in place, which have already a program in progress, so you can have the impression of losing part of it, if entering a phase not initial . If you teach a group of Spanish students without specific requirements: you either inform them that the course is taught in English before the starting date or you use Spanish in the class. My English isn't good enough and I had to use Spanish to ask a classmate to translate what the teacher was telling us (in English). And then the teacher was telling us off for using our mother tongue to try to keep pace with the class, just because she did not understand.
