Student opinions about Intercultura Costa Rica Spanish Schools, Samara

Verified reviews only, uncensored. All student opinions from students who booked a course at the school with LanguageCourse.net.
Liked
The school was excellent. During the three weeks I was there I had two teachers. They were both very good. The school was well organized and the office staff were very nice and helpful. The school was clean and well organized. I appreciated that the classrooms had 4-6 students and they were air conditioned. I have only good things to say about the school.
Disliked
I have nothing to say here.

I very much liked the overall atmosphere: students and teachers and other staff and all human beings are appreciated. Teachers seem to like each other and their work! I also liked to sit on a real chair and around a table (to be able to write!), not just on a plastic chair like somewhere else. The air conditioning worked, too - thank you!

I liked everything about the Intercultura school. The lessons were given in small groups, by very motivated and capable teachers. You could tell that they also enjoy their work. There were also modern smartboards in the air-conditioned rooms. The atmosphere in the whole school was great!

Quality of teaching / language progress: The school recommends taking private lessons so that you can work individually. I wanted to take private lessons that week, but the school couldn't offer any because all the teachers are fully booked. It would be good if the school offered conversation groups as an alternative instead of just nothing. The conversation parts in class were terribly boring because we all lacked the necessary vocabulary. The school should be didactically more skillful here and introduce a basic vocabulary that allows everyday life to be better formulated. Grammar is very important, although the aim of the students is to be able to speak Spanish.

They were very well organised and I thought both the group and the teacher were very good. The material was taught really well.
Disliked
It would be great if the material that is shown electronically were also available electronically in a cloud or similar. I think that could be done better in this day and age. The tasks could also be electronised so that you could always repeat them afterwards. With paper, they are already filled and you don't have them empty.

Very good teachers, use of many media, proximity to the beach; shower, changing room and locker in the school
Disliked
The rooms are heavily air-conditioned because of the use of the digital media. Therefore there was also a "wind" that was very unpleasant for me. For me, the rooms were far too cold, too windy and one of them was damp and smelled mouldy. I always had to dress thickly to take part in the lessons. There is a lot of material, a lot of grammar, but this means that speaking takes a back seat, which is very important to me. That's why I will only book individual courses in the future.

Except for the afternoon activities. The cooking class was so much fun, but was only offered once a week. Maybe, you could offer it more often. And a surf class (if it's too expensive for extra money) would have been nice too.

Questions and answers about Intercultura Costa Rica Spanish Schools

  • Unfortunately the school Intercultura Costa Rica Spanish Schools is not approved by CSN.
    Louise Granath, LanguageCourse.Net - Oct 19, 2022
  • Not included with the course but we can arrange your arrival:

One choice is to be picked-up by a taxi driver, arranged by Intercultural to a homestay family in Heredia, overnight stay at the host family, and transfer to the bus station the next day (ticket included) where the bus leaves directly to Sámara (transfer takes about 5 hours).

If you don ́t want to spend the night in Heredia, you can also get picked up by the taxi driver from SJO airport who brings you straight to the bus stop in San Jose center, and take the direct bus to Sámara the same day. This is only possible if you arrive early enough to catch the bus on the same day (reach out to us and we can check the actual bus schedule).

We can also arrange a private taxi that brings you directly from SJO airport all the way to Samara, no matter at what time your flight arrives.
