Why Almeria? An energetic port city with an illustrious past, Almería is a city in southeast Spain. Its economy is built around vegetable production, with 100,000 acres of greenhouses, supplying much of Europe. It has an attractive centre with palm-fringed plazas and old churches as well as several interesting museums and a plethora of fantastic tapas bars. Best of all – and reason alone for a visit – is its the spectacular Alcazaba, an imposing Moorish fortress overlooking the city.
