Student reviews about "G8 Standard" at Centro Linguistico Italiano Dante Alighieri
Anne 5.0
"Very good consistent teaching "
Andrés Enrique 3.0
"Unfortunately, the teacher was always talking about the problems with her family, ex-husband and children, and we have practically not seen any grammar, since she spent hours, as I indicate, talking about her particular issues. The group was very heterogeneous, there were people who knew very, very little, and others who knew more for the level in which we were placed."

"It wasn't made clear to me that due to holidays in Rome, I would miss 3 lessons since I had planned my departure on Saturday (Easter week). Clarifying beforehand on how many days overall a student is paying for would have been very helpful."

“The school is in a very good location, making it accessible from virtually any part of Rome. The teachers are very well prepared to teach. At the secretary's office you can always get help and information you need. I highly recommend it!”
“The only downside is the chairs in the teaching rooms. Normal school benches would be useful, not chairs with a folding table. It is very uncomfortable to work this way.”

“Very informal, friendly teachers, relaxed atmosphere.”
“Classrooms too small, sometimes too many students next to each other. Only a small folding board on the chair for writing was a bit awkward. The walls were very thin and you could hear the teachers in the next room during lessons, which was very annoying.”

“Good location and small groups. Very attentive staff.”
“To carry out a good immersion, four weeks are necessary, since a single one is insufficient. This should be indicated when registering.”
Insider tip: “It is useless to do this course if you are not going to be there for at least four weeks.”
Details of the review
Quality of teaching / language progress: Unfortunately, the teacher was always talking about the problems with her family, ex-husband and children, and we have practically not seen any grammar, since she spent hours, as I indicate, talking about her particular issues. The group was very heterogeneous, there were people who knew very, very little, and others who knew more for the level in which we were placed.Other comments: Although the material was free for those of us who have only been there for a week, we should have been provided with the correction of all the exercises in the booklet once we had finished, which was denied, proposing online classes at 33 euros per hour as the only solution.

“Focused on the basics of grammar, essential to speak properly.”
“The classes were tedious, there was hardly any interaction between the students, much of the content was excessively repetitive, weeks conjugating verbs... I was looking for something more dynamic.”

“Stefania is an excellent teacher and engaged us all very effectively. Materials were pretty good too.”
Details of the review
Quality of teaching / language progress: The information suggested that I would be on a one week course. What I was on was one week of a longer course and I just slotted into what was already being taught, so that was rather misleading. I recognise that it's not possible to arrange a course just for me, or for whoever is coming just for one week but the information needs to stop suggesting that you do anything other than fit into another, ongoing class, for a week, doing what they're doing, not necessarily what you really need to be doing.

- The sea in Lido is also easy to reach, 30 min. by train.”

Insider tip: “Private lessons !!”

Other comments: My accommodation was perfectly ok, however I would advise other students of my age (19) to look into it more closely: I stayed with an Italian woman between 60-70 years old and I have to say that I would have preferred a different accommodation in the end. She also did not expect me to be so young. I think that younger students are better off elsewhere.

“The school was well organised and clean. However, I was not in a suitable class. I was not tested for my level and I was lost from the very beginning. After two weeks of falling farther and farther behind I asked for individual tutoring. I was given that, but at an additional cost. I blame myself for not researching more fully what "immersion" really meant. I thought I was going to learn to speak Italian and instead it seemed like a class for fluent Italian speakers on the subject of grammar.”
Insider tip: “Make sure you can already speak and understand Italian before enrolling in the school or you will be lost. There are other ways to learn Italian from the ground up and these methods should be used first. It was very lonely to spend a month with no English speaking friends. I was afraid to go on excursions because I didn't know what was going on.”
Details of the review
Other comments: The director and teachers tried to help and seemed sincerely concerned. It was like they were surprised I couldn't understand Italian. My individual teacher, Catia, was wonderful and made the rest of the course bearable. I will not be returning to Italy for Italian as I had planned.

“The atmosphere is very casual. Everyone knows everyone, and there is a real attempt to make the experience pleasant in as many ways as possible.”
Insider tip: “If Stefania is doing her walkabout tours on Friday afternoons, by all means go! She really knows what she's talking about, she's a hoot, and she's brilliant at speaking slowly enough and simply enough that even low-level students can understand her.”
Details of the review
Other comments: Overall, my experience was very good. I may well go back. However, I think they need a larger facility. Some of the classrooms are not really big enough for the larger classes, they really could use a library/listening lab, and there are not enough rest rooms! A footnote to "Distance from accommodation to school": I was moved from one homestay to another after one month (arranged in advance). This was not a problem particularly. The second place was 15-20 minutes by public transport, but I chose to walk, which was 50 minutes.

I wish to take 10 group (not private) conversation lessons, but I cannot start on Monday and should finish before Friday.
“Centro Linguistico Italiano Dante Alighieri offers a group conversation course called Italian Conversation which consists of 15 group lessons per week. This is the course that best suits your needs, but lessons that you cannot take cannot be made up.

Alternatively, you can opt for private lessons and book as many as you like.”
Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - Dec 09, 2022
When is the G4 and when is the G8 course recommended? What is the difference?
“For elementary students I don't suggest the G4. It's a grammar course, effective for speakers who have a good ability in speaking and wants to improve the grammar knowledge.... When the language learning is "academic" and not through the daily life we suggest the G8 course at least, for improving all the abilities. With the G4 course the student takes the risk to have a good knowledge of the grammar but poor abilities in listening comprehension and oral production.”
Fabrizio, LanguageCourse.net - Mar 02, 2022

Do you have Spanish courses?
“At present (2024), the school only offers Italian courses. ”
Veronica Romualdi, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Dec 30, 2024
I would like to know the content of the Italian Conversation course.
“The course includes 10 group lessons and 5 individual lessons per week. The content depends on the students' language level. The courses at Centro Linguistico Italiano Dante Alighieri are are structured in two parts. The first part is the grammar which is followed by the Conversation course. During the Conversation course, students learn to apply the new linguistic structures and grammar they learned in the most varied situations from the colloquial to a more formal language. They broaden their vocabulary and practice idiomatic expressions of spoken Italian. The Conversation course can be booked without the grammar part as well. It also includes 5 private lessons per week where students can focus on any aspect of the language they wish to improve. ”
Angela Ligartova, Consultant from LanguageCourse.net - Aug 10, 2022
We would like to have private lessons for two. Is the price for private lessons alone or with two people the same?
