List of paid activities in Newcastle for adults, with a focus on a range of interests, from creative and educational to active and social.

Creative and Educational:

Workshops: Look for classes in painting, pottery, or life drawing. Many venues host one-off workshops, such as "paint and sip" events, that are perfect for beginners.

Theatre and Live Music: Newcastle has a rich performing arts scene. You can book tickets to a show at the Theatre Royal, a concert at the Utilita Arena, or a smaller gig at a more intimate venue.

Ghost Walks and Historical Tours: Get to know the darker side of Newcastle's history with a guided ghost walk or a tour of the Victoria Tunnel, a historic waggonway and air-raid shelter.

Unique Experiences: From a "Silent Disco Adventure" tour through the city to an escape room, there are plenty of unique and memorable activities to try.

Active and Adventurous
Go-Karting: For those with a competitive streak, an indoor go-karting track offers a high-energy and fun challenge.

Climbing: Whether you're a beginner or an expert, there are indoor climbing and bouldering gyms that offer a great physical workout and a social atmosphere.

Sporting Events: Attend a professional sports match, such as a Newcastle United football game at St. James' Park or a Newcastle Falcons rugby game.

White Water Tubing and Cliff Jumping: For the more adventurous, there are organised trips that take you outside the city for some exhilarating outdoor activities.

Junior - Free activities

It's great to have a list of activities specifically for juniors. Catering to this age group requires a mix of educational, active, and fun experiences. Here is a list of activities in Newcastle that would be perfect for a younger student group, with a mix of paid and free options.

Unpaid/Low-Cost Activities:

Museums and Galleries:
Discovery Museum: This free museum is fantastic for juniors with its hands-on exhibits about Newcastle's history, science, and technology. The Turbinia (a famous steam-powered ship) is a huge hit.
Great North Museum: Hancock: Another free museum with a focus on natural history and world cultures. Juniors will love the dinosaur skeleton, the Ancient Egypt gallery, and the live animal exhibits.
Laing Art Gallery: While a visit to an art gallery might not seem exciting to juniors, the Laing often has specific family-friendly exhibits and workshops that are designed to be engaging and interactive.
Outdoor Fun:
Exhibition Park: A large park with a lake, playground, and plenty of space for games and picnics. It's a great spot for a casual afternoon of running around and playing.
Jesmond Dene: This is a beautiful, sprawling park with a stream, waterfall, and woodland areas. It also has a pets' corner with farm animals, which is a big draw for younger children.
Ouseburn Farm: A community-led farm in the heart of the city's Ouseburn Valley. It's free to enter and a great way for juniors to get up close with animals like pigs, sheep, and chickens.
Learning and Creativity:
Newcastle City Library: The library often hosts free children's events, from storytelling sessions to craft workshops.
Seven Stories, The National Centre for Children's Books: This is a truly unique place dedicated to children's literature. It has interactive exhibits and workshops with a focus on storytelling, illustration, and creativity. While it's a paid activity, it's very much a "must-do" for juniors.

Stephenson Steam Railway: An exciting way to learn about the region's industrial heritage by taking a ride on a preserved steam train.
Victoria Tunnel: For older juniors who are interested in history, a guided tour of this preserved 19th-century coal waggonway and WWII air-raid shelter is a unique experience.
