Student Opinions About Studying in Colorado Springs

“Something a lot of newcomers don’t anticipate when they come to Colorado Springs, myself included, is that the altitude affects people who have never lived in a high altitude region before. It can make people dizzy and fatigued, and increase the effect alcohol has on you. After a while your body gets used to this though.”

“Colorado Springs is located just before you get to the mountain range, so practically everybody living here gets the most incredible views from their home. We never see the sunset though, since it always disappears behind the mountains thanks to where we’re positioned. The amazing beauty constantly on offers more than makes up for that.”

“The population of the town is in general very conservative, with a lot of people being either Christian or military personnel. This can make it challenging for me to engage with people socially, since I’m more liberally minded. Even so, the people here are usually very friendly, with a strong sense of community.”

Colorado Springs Key Facts for International Students

PROS

  • Colorado Springs offers a considerable variety of activities to get involved in, such as hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding, skiing, fly-fishing. Those new to the city can look up Facebook groups for the outdoor activities they’re interested in, or they can keep an eye out for groups and clubs on campus if they’re studying in Colorado Springs.

  • This city’s average rental price for a 2-bedroom apartment is around $1,305, which is on the higher end of the national average, but it’s balanced out by the fact that the cost of living in Colorado Springs is exceptionally good.

  • There are abundant job opportunities here, especially in colleges, military outposts, airports, and Amazon.

CONS

  • This is not a great location for those who are looking for parties, nightlife, and so on. Colorado Springs is a place truly specialized in outdoor activities, and not much attention is given to the more metropolitan activities like nightlife.

  • Long-term residents agree that a car is absolutely necessary for living in this town, because the public transport service is inadequate and poorly funded. There is a bus service available to use, but it does not provide coverage to a number of important neighborhoods. Depending on where you decide to live, you may be able to make use of it.
