Why Cortona? Cortona is a small charming town in the province of Arezzo in southern Tuscany and best known these days as the setting for the book and movie “Under the Tuscan Sun,” . This gorgeous hillside town is enclosed by stone walls dating back to Etruscan and Roman times and sits on the top of a 600m hill above sea level. This position over the valley offers a spectacular view from all over the town of the surrounding valley and Lake Trasimeno. The city is small but offers many interesting places to visit, it is bursting with splendid churches and top attractions include the Duomo (Cathedral) and the small Diocesano Museo with its superb art collection.Various small shops on the main streets of Cortona offer local handmade items and gastronomical products and with a vineyard next door, great red wines are made and sold in the area.
