London ratings & opinions
How our students rated their experience in London
What our students said about London
It rains a lot in London. The sun goes down early. It's 4 o'clock. Of course, it's winter. Prices were too high. Most of the meals were expensive and tasteless. Unless you go grocery shopping, you will encounter fish and chips and fast food. I tried other menus, but they were not good for being expensive and expensive. I couldn't shop freely because I couldn't do duty-free, and it was hard to get around a lot because the weather was bad. Subway is very crowded. There are many places without street lights
South Korea
I did not participate in night life, I wanted to focus on my studies. There is one comment about the social program: one day trip to Windsor, Stonehenge & Bath is too busy program for one day, there is no time to go sightseeing and it takes a very long time to return from Bath to London.
Russia
Germany
London is simply fascinating, insanely diverse mixed architecture, great food there is super much to see and experience. London is very expensive, but there are also many free activities and you can save money through meal deals or cooking yourself.
Germany
A diverse, exciting city, but very expensive. It's great that most of the museums are free (donation). I also liked the variety of food markets and opportunities to discover new things. London is also very green with its parks.
Germany
London is the best destination to learn English for me. In this place we can find all what we need: history, multiculture, the greatest theatres, galleries, museums, good entertainment and many beautiful places.
Poland
It is definitely worth a visit to experience everything for yourself. The skyline at night from Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey, Elizabeth Tower/Big Ben etc. is fantastic!
Germany
Very many different things to do. The guided city tours are also great for learning the language. Tourist attractions very expensive, but museums, parks etc. free.
Germany
A fascinating city, especially for young people, I think. But I also felt very comfortable at my age, especially because of my wonderful and quiet accommodation.
Germany
Great city, very uncomplicated, very good public transport, people friendly, open, great sights and shopping in second-hand shops.
Germany
A strange construct, very expensive but works much better than Berlin, for example. (But almost every city is better than Berlin)
Germany
We did not visit London but we visited Oxford a lot of times and this was very interesting with the shopping and the colleges.
Austria
London is a fantastic and very exciting city. The people are very friendly. The quality of the public transport is very good.

Excellent school, centrally located in Oxford Street. Very good atmosphere from the reception to the teachers to the head Fred Gordon, who always had an ear for questions or the postponement of an individual lesson. Only the afternoon activities could have been a bit more exciting and varied. Absolutely recommendable.

Course: General English 15 - Morning - 3 weeks

The atmosphere was great (thanks Antonella and Fred!). All the teachers I had. Jonathan, Andrew and especially Antigone. Also that there were smaller classes. There were never more than 8-10 of us.
The atmosphere was very good. Textbook should also be bought. I didn't find the book very suitable for me. I didn't have to buy it after consultation and was able to cope ;-)

Course: General English - Morning (15) - 12 weeks

I had three teachers who I really liked. One of them really cared about her students and took the time to explain things properly to them. I really liked the way the classes were run: practising writing, grammar, vocabulary and conversation activities. This really helped me to become fluent. And the fact that the teachers corrected us every time we made a mistake helped enormously. I'm starting WLES again.
Very nice staff!

Information about London
London is known around the world as being an excellent place to learn English. Not only is the accent one of the clearest in the country but it is buzzing with activity twenty four seven. The nightlife is fantastic with world famous bands and DJs often playing in one of the many music venues around the city. During the day there are an endless array of restaurants, museums, shops, festivals and, of course, the great British pub for you to visit. You will never run out of things to do. It is a great place to learn all about the history and culture of England with sights such as the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge. There are excellent transport links within the city itself as well as to other cities further afield. It is a great base to explore all that England has to offer. As you can see, London has it all and more!
The reputation that learning English in London holds comes at a price, and that price is expensive. It is very pricey compared to other cities in the country. It is possible for you to find cheaper options but this does mean that you will be further out of the city or within the winter months. London is a fast paced city and often it can be difficult to connect with locals. Why not take up a hobby that you enjoy to break into a group of local friends.

Q&A - Questions and answers about London
- Is it possible for my 15 year old daughter to book a course in London together with her 16 year old friend?“It is absolutely possible for your daughter and her friend to study English together, our partner schools offer great courses for teenagers!
For example Kings school offers a summer programme for students aged 14-17.”Gosia Mazur, LanguageCourse.Net - Feb 22, 2024I am 16 years old and want to study in November, can I stay in a student residence?“Many schools accept 16 year old students in their adult courses so you are very welcome to join the courses but residences almost exclusively accept students over 18. If you want to book accommodation I recommend that we book a host family for you.”Louise Granath, LanguageCourse.Net - Jul 28, 2023Can I book just the course? I live in London.“You can book just the course if you already have accommodation in London, no problem.”Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - Jul 03, 2023I am looking for an English course in London for me and my 11-year-old twins.“I did some research for you and found two options:
St Giles Central London:
This school has a family package, which I think will suit you well! They have three different packages:
1. Family Day Package Only: 20 English lessons per week, activities and excursions.
2. Family Day Package Plus: same as package 1, but with lunch.
3. Family Full Package: same as Package 1, but with lunch and homestay accommodation with breakfast.
Burlington School London:
This school has a junior course (day programme) for 11-year-old students and also offers general English courses for adults.”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.Net - Apr 27, 2023I am 25 years old and I would like to learn English from scratch.“I am pleased to inform you that we have many partner schools in the UK that welcome absolute beginners.”Sawsan Zein, LanguageCourse.Net - Apr 26, 2023I am interested in booking an English programme in London, but I have availability on weekends only. Do you have any options?“At the time of writing, the schools Speak Up and West London English School in London are offering English lessons on weekends. Just let us know your English level and we can send you the detailed information.”Ana Carolina Dos Santos, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 19, 2023I am interested in an English course with group lessons with mature students. Do you have any options?“In London, EC English offers group lessons in specific groups for students aged 30 and over, year-round.”Ana Carolina Dos Santos, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 12, 2023I am looking for a 1 or 2-week course for my niece age 17. Do you have any recommendations for students of similar age? A course with 15 hours of study per week would be great.“For a 17-year-old student, the general English standard course offered by Bayswater is an excellent choice. This course is made up of 20 lessons per week/15 hours per week that combine language learning with a special focus on developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This is best for students who want to study at a steady pace (Morning classes only).”Ana Carolina Dos Santos, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 12, 2023I am a citizen of the European Union. Can I study English in London without a visa?“Of course, you can easily enroll in a language school. EU citizens do not need a visa to stay in the UK for up to 6 months.”Gosia Mazur, LanguageCourse.Net - Dec 19, 2022For my daughter, who will go to secondary school next year, we are thinking of booking her a course. There is also a lot of attention for relaxation / vacation. It doesn't have to be a drill course. I think having a host family is too much of a good thing, and that we will go to England so she can join us in the evening.“The choice of accommodation is very personal. Some students really enjoy staying with other students, such as in residences/campus areas. And others benefit much more from a host family, with more personal attention and the practice of the language also during dinner. Staying in the evening with your own family is of course also possible and may give you more peace of mind. It just depends on what she likes.”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.net - Feb 16, 2022I would like to take an English course in London for 2 weeks for my occupation. They recommend taking a business English course. Which options do you recommend?“If you like to use English for professional purposes, it would be good to take a look at the business courses. There you have more focus on business use. You can view these courses by viewing the course categories at the bottom of our pages. You can also opt for a course with, for example, 20 general English lessons per week and then private lessons in the afternoon to focus on English specifically for your type of work.”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.net - Nov 08, 2021FAQ about schools in London
- I would like to have more information about accommodation.“Most schools have accommodation that is available to students. These can be student residences or host families. Host families can be located anywhere in the city, they are usually the cheapest option and also the one that allows students to experience the local culture the most. For privacy reasons, the school does not reveal the contact details of the host family until about 10 days before the trip. The residences, on the other hand, are usually located in the same school complex or a short distance away, most often a private room in a flat shared by 2-3 other students. ”Veronica Romualdi, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Apr 16, 2024I don't know if I can take out a subscription for the underground bus online in advance, or if I'll have to do it in person at a London station or underground station.
What do you recommend for a one-month subscription?“For transport in London, you can certainly buy a bus and tube season ticket in advance online. London's public transport service offers various options for buying tickets and passes, including on their official website or via their mobile app. This will save you time once you're there, and you can even take advantage of discounts or special offers by buying online.
When it comes to choosing a monthly pass, it all depends on how often you use public transport in London. If you plan to use the bus and Tube regularly throughout the month, a monthly season ticket could be advantageous in terms of cost per journey. However, if your stay is shorter or you won't be using public transport every day, it may be cheaper to opt for individual tickets or prepaid cards such as the Oyster Card. Make sure you work out what best suits your specific needs for getting around London.”Madly Simba, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 06, 2024Is there a 50+ course in London?“In London, if you are over 50, you can choose LSI's 40+ programme, 2 organisations where you can study and live at the teacher's home or join a general English course with mixed ages. Which appeals most to you?
It is good to know that classes on LSI's 40+ programme are still with mixed ages. You will be offered 40+ activities after classes during this programme.
Most schools in London prefer to categorise classes by language level rather than age. Did you already have a school in mind? If so, I can research for you what the average age is in the schools of your interest.
”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Jul 10, 2023Which language test should I take, IELTS or Cambridge?“Cambridge exams focus more on everyday topics. IELTS is a more academic test, with questions about university studies or scientific topics. You can either pass or fail the Cambridge exam, and you can get different scores for the IELTS test, which you will then present when applying to university. The Cambridge exam can be taken 4 times a year, while IELTS exams are held almost all year round. The general IELTS test is most often taken to prepare for immigration. The IELTS Academic test and the Cambridge CAE and CPE tests are ideal for admission to foreign universities. ”Maksym Sterpul, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Jul 04, 2023Is it possible to start a Junior Course on a Wednesday?“Normally all junior programmes start on a Monday, as it is the day when the orientation and the welcoming is scheduled.
To start on a Wednesday can be requested, and some schools will allow it, but we always suggest starting on Mondays to make the best out of our courses.”Antonio, Area Manager Italian from Bayswater College - Aug 03, 2022I am looking for a short term English course for Cambridge certificate C1.“If you now have C1 level in English and you would like to obtain a Cambridge certificate for C1, you should opt for a Cambridge Advanced course (CAE). In London we have many options for exam preparation courses. At the top of the page, in the search panel, you can filter on CAE courses.”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, Dutch Consultant from LanguageCourse.net - Nov 11, 2021Didn't find what you are looking for?Interested in a specific type of course?
