What our students said about Seoul

4.0

Rating: 4/5

The people are mostly friendly and helpful, but as a foreigner you are sometimes looked at or ignored. Many people here speak little English, so it is helpful to know a little Korean. The public transport is great. The city is really huge and there are unfortunately few green spaces or larger parks. Shopping is very expensive compared to eating out. There are lots of nice cafés.

I am absolutely impressed and already knew on the second day that I had to come back. As a woman, I have always felt very safe, even on the way home at night. The Koreans were very helpful and helped me in every emergency, which impressed me very much and is not something that can be taken for granted.

Seoul is a must-see and very interesting city. At the moment, however, a lot has been shut down due to Corona. You can therefore only visit museums and sights to a very limited extent. For this reason, I can't say much about the nightlife.

I felt the warmth of the people in the city, who were rather nosy and at the same time really friendly. I could not get used to the dirty toilets for two weeks. Gyeongbokgung Palace was a lot of fun.

The teachers were really great and the classes were a lot of fun. I regret that 2 weeks was not enough. I wish I could have asked more questions if I could have spoken English!
Anyway, the teachers explained clearly and my language skills were improved. They were all great teachers.

The staff are very nice and helpful. The teachers are absolutely great. They teach mainly in Korean, but as soon as you don't understand something, they explain it in English until you understand it. The lessons were very informative and easy to understand. Intensive but great.

Constant good follow-up by teachers. The team was good motivating students, with great teaching methods. At the end of my stay, I acknowledged perfectly the basics of the language. I enjoyed the dialogues teacher/student. It was an effort to speak, but the best way to learn.

  • At Lexis Korea, you can start every Monday, even as a beginner. The school is very quick in processing the documents, so I would recommend Lexis Korea if you want to start spontaneously.

  • Lexis Korea in Seoul organizes courses for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17. No knowledge of Korean or English is required to participate in the course. Before starting the course you will be asked to complete a level test so that you are placed in the correct group.
All the students in your group will be at the same or a similar language level, so you won't be alone! The teachers are very experienced in teaching absolute beginners, you will be in good hands.
Of course, I understand that going so far away is stressful, but I'm sure you will meet peers from all over the world, which will motivate you even more to learn the language.

FAQ about schools in Seoul

  • We do not provide assistance in this matter. We therefore recommend that you contact the Korean embassy. However, I was able to find some information online (to be double-checked with the embassy): As a Belgian citizen, if you plan to visit South Korea for tourist purposes and stay for less than 90 days, you generally don't need to apply for a visa in advance. Belgium is one of the countries whose citizens can enter South Korea for short-term visits without a visa under the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP).
