Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Great teachers, activities help to get to know people quickly, which is important as many students are travelling alone.
Negative aspects
A little disorganised in places, but all within reason.
City/place
Unfortunately, there are no beaches in the immediate vicinity of the school that can be reached without a long walk. The exception is Playa de Martianez, but it is difficult to get into the water because of the rocks.
Accommodation
Meals were not included. I don't want to give a rating for my own cooking skills ;)

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The teachers were very good. Great leisure activities. Lessons finished earlier/short breaks compared to other language schools.
Negative aspects
Large group size. Classroom without windows.

Great teachers
City/place
Unfortunately very touristy and often very dirty (lots of dog poo on the pavements, rubbish is simply dumped in the ravines/slopes). Puerto de la Cruz loses its charm due to the many hotel bunkers.
Quality of teaching / language progress
Good, not too many and not too few lessons. Surf course was ok, but the surf instructors were not so well trained.
Accommodation
Very nice, they also challenged me a bit to speak Spanish. Room ok, but was a bit like a storeroom and sometimes not so clean (carpet with stains, towels with hair on them and very smelly etc.). Food good but sometimes a bit poor.

The shared flat was large, clean and very well equipped. Due to the central location and the quality of the doors, it was quite noisy and noisy, but with Oropax you could still sleep well.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
International, positive atmosphere in general and in particular. On request, we also responded to topic requests and used a lot of new vocabulary, verbs, etc.
Negative aspects
Classes too large for beginners. Also, after the " insufficient" online placement test, a further assessment should be carried out on site after the first day, or the learning speed and willingness to learn or goals should be checked, and the class should possibly be divided!!!!

I could enjoy the climate (more sun than at home).

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The teachers are super friendly and helpful. Especially the extra lessons on speaking at 30 intensive were very helpful.
Negative aspects
There was not daylight in all classrooms.
City/place
I thought the city was wonderful
Quality of teaching / language progress
It was a very good course in which you could learn a lot. I especially liked the additional language lessons.
Accommodation
Accommodation is not always chosen appropriately, while I stayed as a 21-year-old with a single woman over 60. An over 60-year-old was accommodated with a family with teenage daughters. With half board, there were unfortunately few fresh vegetables/salad with the hot meal. The portion was sufficient. For breakfast, there was the same cereal every day. I would have thought that I would be more integrated into the host family than I was.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The atmosphere at the school, the teaching itself and the teachers.
Negative aspects
The situation in terms of space is very bad in some respects: partly windowless classrooms without any noise protection, in which one can hear the lessons of the next class word for word, loud clapping and laughter during the play phases, sound from the corridor and from the terrace, the boisterous group discussions extremely disturb one's own concentration - especially when a test is also to be written.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
The diverse afternoon activities!
Other comments
It would be super if the school could also set up a 50Plus course in the A1 and A2 beginners' section. For us old people, it's just too fast with the sudden variations of topics within a lesson (clothes, long-distance travel, shopping, health, song lyrics, telephoning, doctor's appointment, leisure and party planning and Spanish social life/history...) or in the video quiz game (English-Spanish). Because at A2 level, grammar still demands extreme attention. The rapid changes of topics are mainly intended for young people to prevent boredom through variety. For us older people, the resulting required broad vocabulary is more of a burden. I, for one, am no longer able to learn 30-40 new words a day to be able to follow the lessons.
City/place
I'm not particularly interested in Puerto de La Cruz and I don't perceive it "as a city". The small historic centre still has flair and I like it. But I travelled to this tourist stronghold exclusively because of the course. (I like Tenerife's capital Santa Cruz very much "as a city").
Quality of teaching / language progress
The intensive course was (in my opinion) indicated with 5-8 participants. In the first week there were five of us, which was very good due to the high participation rate. In the second week there were 10 participants. I thought that was very bad (especially in this spatial situation).

Positive aspects of school
I can highly recommend FU International. I booked for two weeks but stayed an extra week because I was making good progress with the excellent teacher Laura. Classes are small, my first was seven students and the next two four. The subject matter was at the appropriate level for me but I noticed the college was flexible and would move students up mid week. The lessons are well planned with a test at the end of the week to identify any weak areas. The teachers encourage students to speak using a range of games and scenarios. Above all, for me aged 60+, the mix of ages because of the professional qualifications it offers means older students do not feel out of place.
Negative aspects
Nothing
Other comments
I really liked the free breakfast every Monday on the lovely - usually sunny - terrace because it was a chance to socialise and meet other students on the first day. Plus the food is excellent!
City/place
Tenerife has a lot more to offer than beaches but if you want sun in winter it’s best to go to the south of the island as Puerto de la Cruz has a lot of clouds and rain. You can catch a local bus to the southern resorts at weekends for GBP 10 return.
Quality of teaching / language progress

Speak - speak - speak ... but where?
Other comments
I have no comparison to other schools - but I was/am fully satisfied.
City/place
Tenerife is versatile and with the Teide you have almost all climatic zones on the island. Santa Cruz has a great big city character and you can find everything you can expect. The rural areas above the coast are relatively densely built up. A lot of industry and energy systems can be found on the south coast. In this respect, Puerto de la Cruz is the ideal place.
Quality of teaching / language progress
I would have welcomed the opportunity to speak more.

Positive aspects of school
The school is located in a shopping center, you have many options, shopping in the supermarket, stopping off at cafes/restaurants, there are also other shops, doctors' offices, etc. The botanical garden is right across the street, the quarter itself is quiet. The lessons are a bit too ambitious and therefore create a lot of stress. However, individual teachers are very committed.
Negative aspects
Since the intensive course was too stressful for me, I completely lost motivation. There were constant changes of teachers, the classrooms are poorly equipped and there are often references to learning opportunities on the Internet. The lesson times weren't particularly ideal for me, but due to the shortage of teachers, they couldn't be managed any other way. Unfortunately, as a result of the pandemic, leisure activities were restricted, and there were no excursions by the school.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
To see the beautiful surroundings, not just the beach.
Other comments
Maybe set goals that are not that ambitious, which is less stressful for students and teachers.
City/place
I lived in Puerto de la Cruz and the rating refers to this city. I was only "sightseeing" in Santa Cruz and La Laguna.
Quality of teaching / language progress
Disastrous, not my thing. But I didn't fit in with the young people who mostly hang out on the beach together and devote themselves to the nightlife.
Accommodation
Very nice family, helpful, committed. Also went on excursions with me, provided bus tickets, organized a lot, of course also spoke a lot of Spanish with me. The family has really been a godsend for me and made up for some of the things that didn't work so well at school.

I highly recommend the FU International Academy in Puerto de la Cruz due to: friendly atmosphere, undertaking educational activities in accordance with the expectations and possibilities of students, helping students in school and in various extracurricular matters related to the stay in Tenerife. FU International Academy in Puerto de la Cruz is a nice proposition to combine learning Spanish with a nice time on Tenerife with leisure, and the opportunity to learn about the local culture.
Other comments
I would like to thank you for a very pleasant 2 weeks of learning Spanish at FU International Academy.
