Small class at the curso de conversación. Different levels were put together. Low level student gave up after one session. Teacher Ana-Marie was very good and addressed the main mistakes.

Negative aspects

Reception staff were polite, but gave contradictory or even incorrect information. The Barceloneta classroom was reverberant as there were no materials to absorb the room sound. Results of the required online written tests were only given out on request and only the answers were cryptic. The questions were missing and therefore errors were not comprehensible. An alleged oral test for categorisation did not take place.

The school organised everything very well. Communication was excellent. The teachers were all very nice and very competent. Evening activities were offered on 3 days and were well attended.

Negative aspects

In addition to 4 hours of group lessons per day, I also had one hour of private lessons per day. Unfortunately, my second teacher in the private lesson was not ideal for me, as in my opinion a beginner needs someone who should speak English as well as Spanish.

Easy to book, quick replies to e-mails before starting the course, easy to complete the online pre-course level test and the oral tests for all of the students were done on the first morning quickly enough that none of us lost any teaching time on the first day, good quality of teaching, friendly teachers and administration staff, textbooks provided free of charge and you can keep these when you leave, nice terrace at the front of the school and nice rooftop terraces, good WiFi, snacks and drinks available to purchase at reception, plenty of places to get food and drink nearby, central location, during the winter (I went in January) organized social / cultural activities offered on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings (which I think is relatively good for a winter programme), classes had a good range of students of different ages and nationalities

Negative aspects

Class sizes relatively large (my first class had 13 people and on the second day I moved into a class of 11 - I moved because I was put into a class with too low a level initially), most of the social / cultural activities were cancelled (5/6 in the 2 weeks I was there) as they wanted a minimum of 5 students to sign up and not enough people signed up

Friendly host and the breakfast he made was good but I was disappointed that I was not allowed to use the kitchen to cook supper for myself - I did not realize that I needed to specifically ask for a host that allows this as in the past with Homestays in other cities I have done this was always allowed. I will know this for future Homestays. The host did offer to let me use the washing machine.

It would be better if courses alternated every week. I had classes from midday to evening both weeks, so I hardly had any time to do anything in Barcelona besides classes.

The host father was nice, but the room cannot be rented to 2 people. It was more like a closet. There were no windows. Only 2 small barred " loopholes" that faced the hallway. My single bed was so short that it was not possible to lie outstretched.

Barcelona is very walkable and easy to navigate.

Nurea cooked amazing meals and was very attentive. The room was small and comfortable. There was a cabinet for my clothes and 2 drawers in the shower. I was there during the summer so it was hot and uncomfortable without a fan or A/C. The balcony was outside my door and the garbage smell was strong. I was instructed to use the water very sparingly and turn off the shower while I use the soap. The location is not in the best neighbourhood and a bit far from the school and the major sites. Nurea was kind to do my laundry for me the day before I left. I spent 4 nights at her home.

Everyone is super friendly and helpful at all times. Great school with a good location.

Negative aspects

Some classrooms have no daylight. Personally, it was damn hard for me to understand the teachers due to the masks and some of them spoke too quickly to me, even if we pointed this out to them several times. Some students, including myself, were put in a class with other students who had much more knowledge or who had already completed more weeks of language school.

My opinion: book a few weeks (3-4) to see if it is something for you. However, this is still a bit difficult to assess, as some teachers were changed after a few weeks. One speaks too quickly, the other practices less and shows more short videos ...

All the teachers are very kind, helpful and friendly. Their methods of learning are very good and helpful. During the three weeks I’ve been learning with Lingua schools I learnt much more than almost two years of studying Spanish in university.

I had a lovely experience at Linguaschool and would go back any day. The staff are friendly, the teachers are great, and I made friends with so many of my fellow students and with students in other classrooms, thanks to the community feeling of the school.

Accommodation

The flat was nice and clean and close enough to the school. I felt it was a bit far from the city centre, however (it was near Joanic metro station), but had I rented a bike it wouldn't have felt as far. That being said, there was a market directly outside my front door and a Lidl on the next street, which was very convenient!

The teachers are really great, the organization was good too

I can highly recommend it. The classes are small, therefore partly individual teaching is possible. The teachers speak very good, clear and easy to understand Spanish. Everyone is really nice and very helpful.
