The General English course from ABC College of English at their Queenstown location provides a learning experience suitable for a wide range of people, including those planning to be involved in academics or an important job opportunity.
These 25 lessons per week are focused on improving your grammatical accuracy, sense of confidence, and fluency when using English in any situation that you might find yourself in. Participants can expect to cover the four main language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Program Overview:
The school's General English Course offers a programme of study for students who wish to improve their level of confidence, accuracy and fluency in Communicative English language skills.
Learn these skills:
Speaking – pronunciation, fluency and conversational language.
Listening to a range of accents and audiences.
Reading and Writing for different purposes.
Vocabulary – formal and informal.
Grammar skills are interwoven in every skill you learn.
Tutors – You will be taught by the school's qualified, friendly and expert tutors.

The course fees all include comprehensive placement tests, orientation programmes, English tuition, use of classroom equipment, self study materials, guidance and counseling service from the school, student email access and WiFi.
To borrow a course textbook the school asks for a deposit of NZD 80 (NZD 60 will be refunded when returned).
For Academic English there is an additional fee of NZD 120 for exam course material.
Exam fees are external and are set by the governing body.

Students who stay with personally selected homestay families experience a great opportunity to learn and practise their English naturally, in everyday life situations.
Homestay families are carefully chosen for their comfortable homes and their caring, friendly and helpful attitudes.
All homes are inspected to ensure a high standard of comfort.
All homestays include breakfast and dinner Monday – Friday and all meals during weekends and Public Holidays.
All students undergo a Homestay Orientation Programme on their first day. This programme helps students to make the most of their homestay experience.
A typical New Zealand homestay house has gardens and lawns. Each student has his / her own separate room.
All students are monitored to ensure they are happy and comfortable in their homestay environment.
Students complete a homestay evaluation during and at the end of their stay.
The school will advise students of their homestay family details before their departure for New Zealand.

ABC College of English is able to provide affordable, safe and secure rooms for students at a Student Residence, Shotover Lodge.
Located in picturesque Arthur’s Point, at the base of Coronet Peak ski field and a short 7-minute bus ride into the centre of Queenstown, Shotover Lodge offers studio-style apartment living.
Most rooms are twin share with 2 single beds, however, single rooms with a king sized bed are also available subject to availability.
All rooms have an en-suite (bathroom and shower), central heating and a kitchenette including a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster, as well as basic cutlery and dishes.
Each room has either a balcony or patio with outdoor furniture, a sofa, coffee table and colour t.v.
Laundry facilities are a low price of NZD 2 per wash and NZD 2 per dry. Other shared areas include a fully equipped commercial kitchen and a spacious guest lounge. The lounge features a pool table, fireplace, couches, television and dining tables.
Outside, you’ll find ample free parking spaces. The grounds are natively landscaped and include an open fireplace, BBQ area with picnic tables and expansive grassed areas for outdoor activities.
Please note: pillows are supplied, but bedding and towels are not supplied. If you would like to hire a duvet and towel set for the duration of your stay, the cost is NZD 60 per bed. It is then your responsibility to wash the linen set.
ABC College of English takes the safety and well-being of students seriously and have 24/7 management oversight at the residences to ensure students have access to assistance when required. Responsible for the management of daily life at the lodge, the onsite managers also work with elected student assistants (SA’s) to organise a variety of activities for the lodge community. The sense of belonging and connectedness afforded through these activities provides excellent opportunity for language students to mix with other students outside of the classroom environment & to practice their English in everyday social situations.
With consideration of the above factors – safety, social and supported, the managed facilities at Shotover Lodge are ABC College of English ‘s preferred accommodation offering for all incoming students.
