Student opinions about Carl Duisberg Centrum, Cologne

Verified reviews only, uncensored. All student opinions from students who booked a course at the school with LanguageCourse.net.
Liked
During half a year some teachers changed, which is not bad, because everyone has their own approach to teaching. I liked some of the teachers very much, they were very dedicated and determined to improve my language level, some - a little less. Overall, a good environment to learn a language. From my point of view, there is no point in buying a course for less than a month.
Disliked
At first there were no activities at the school because a staff member quit, later they resumed them again, but in six months they were often repetitive and mostly for B1-B2 level and above, like going to the movies for example. There were not enough activities for those who have a beginner level of the language, and also sports activities. One of the things I remember was the carnival at school.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss It is better to start the course together with a group at any level, so that you don't have problems with grammar topics and keep up with the textbook, try to find out in advance when the next group for your level starts.

Quality of teaching / language progress: I found the first day a bit disruptive as I changed classes and then the introduction sessions started, so we didn't cover much on Day 1. I only had 9 days so for me to lose a day was an issue. We then changed teachers on Day 3 it started the introduction process again, so this was another disruptive day for me. Again, I was limited with time, so couldn't really afford this as I wanted to maximize what I got out of the lessons.

Quality of teaching / language progress: The teacher for the course was very engaging and provided a lot of useful teaching content. Unfortunately I was not able to stay longer and learn more. In regards to the facilities; The buildings are in a great location and the classrooms are a comfortable size however the Wifi is difficult at the best of times.

Other comments Is possible to eat at the school but most days the quality and quantity compared to the price could be improved.
School's reply: Muchas gracias por tu comentario, Carlos! We are always happy to receive your feedback, so that we can improve our weak points for the future. When did you do the course? We used to have a canteen but now the school is running a snack service from Monday to Friday during the break. There is also a dispenser for coffee and for cold beverages. Moreover, there are numerous coffee and snack bars in the direct vicinity (very cheap!).We are also expanding and improving our leisure program. You are always welcome :)

Other comments The Centre should assess the students before starting their lessons. For example I was put in an A1.2 class instead of A1.1 but I had no knowledge of the language and it was a frustrating one month. The other 4 students could already speak the language and I couldn't and the teacher was not helpful to me because she always thought I was not coping. How could I cope when I didn't learn the basics? I did not enjoy the first month until I was taken to the A1.1 class.
