Positive aspects of school
"Good teachers. Syllabus makes sense. Nice, that you can choose the length of your stay."
Negative aspects
"Should make it possible to buy coffee with reusable cup. The coffeemashine right now doesn't allow it, which is not sustainable. Facilities either have no fresh air or daylight or if you open the roomdoor a lot of noises, which makes learning harder ... Why is Lyon Bleu listed twice (once as Lyon Bleu and one time with KLF). The result is the same so it's just not correct to have it twice on your website (language course). Also the description is not correct. See the following points: No choice in time of lesson (A1, B1, C2 morning, A2 etc afternoon). No compensation for the missing three classes on first of may. I asked if I could join some of the A1 classes in the morning as a compensation but they just offered to upgrade my booking which would have cost more... Also the afternoon activities were not all free. In the end I was just able to join the only free one. (If that's always the case, the description should be more precise). No snacks available to buy. Printing is very limited (just 10 pages max)."

Positive aspects of school
"Teaching is to a high level and there is good variation throughout the class day. All teachers are exceptionally talented and linguistic. Lyon is a vibrant city with so much going for it. I would highly encourage anyone looking to learn French to come to this school. Standard is incredibly high and there is a lot of passion and commitment from all staff to push their students to a higher level of language learning."
Negative aspects
"Not much to be fair. Other than be prepared to speak French as speaking English, while tolerated, is not actively encouraged especially within class only French will be permitted and encouraged."
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
"Be sure to be strong in all aspects of French as your grammar, listening & writing will be thoroughly honed in on, while at this school."

"Well delivered and timetable worked very well for me."
Accommodation
"The Family were wonderful hosts. I would highly recommend for anyone to stay with them. They will make you feel welcome and treat you like one of their own family. They’re open, honest and hard working young couple. Just be prepared their accommodation is approximately 3Km walk from school - residence. So be advised. You will also have everything you need at your doorstep in terms of facilities and local amenities (gym, shops, post office, pharmacies, restaurants, cinema). Both hosts will cook and they keep their residence’s in high standard of cleanliness. Your room will also have a table in there to study."

Positive aspects of school
"Overall, I was very enthusiastic about the quality of the school. Everything was very well organised, you were well informed about the procedures in advance. On the first day, there was a nice welcome with a friendly assessment of language skills. All of the teachers I experienced were friendly, personable and absolutely professional. My teacher Constance made the lessons very lively, with good, creative ideas. She was able to turn even dry grammar lessons into motivating units with a lot of humour. I also found the afternoon activities good and interesting. I especially liked the French dinner at Chantale's. Absolutely recommended!"
Negative aspects
"I had planned the language course in Lyon to get more into speaking. That came up a little short. Since the school also prepares students for the language exams required to study or work in France, the lessons were very grammar-heavy. I can also do that in Germany at the VHS. Tutorials were offered in the afternoons, but far too few for my taste, and you had to register very early to even get in. In class, there was often group work. Of course, we had to speak French, but there was no teacher to correct mistakes. I also found the tests that were given pointless and a waste of time. In my opinion, the school should differentiate more according to the motivation for taking part in the language courses and then adapt the courses accordingly."

City/place
"I thought Lyon was great! A pleasant, very interesting city with different, lively districts, many great impressions, a large park, small squares, cultural offers. The culinary offer in particular is great, and at affordable prices. The museums are also worth seeing, there are changing, exciting exhibitions. I especially liked the walks along the Rhone and the Saône, where you can picnic, party in the houseboats, just sit around and enjoy the atmosphere. Everything is peaceful and harmless. I walked alone through the streets at 10.30 p.m. and never had the feeling of being in danger."
Accommodation
"The accommodation was in a great location. Right next to the park, a 12-minute walk from the school. The room was large and clean, I used the bathroom with my hostess. Unfortunately, we had little contact as Beatrice was working, which meant that my goal of getting to speak a lot in the host family was not met. The breakfast was modest, but I guess that's normal in France."

Positive aspects of school
"I really enjoyed learning the language, good and friendly teachers and a very nice Host family (Janine) and the fact, that you made sure, that you will be in a class with students which are as good (or bad) as you are."
Negative aspects
"It was really good that you offered afternoon activities, although there weren't many things I was interested in. I really enjoyed the city tour by Janine, but that was basically it. But I am also quite young compared to the other students, so I would guess that that was a unique problem. All in all, I learned a lot and I enjoyed spending my free time in the park."

"I found that the instructor talked too fast in my class and it was beyond my ability to comprehend what she was saying. I attended a tutorial for the class that was one level below and found it far too easy and slow. I was very disappointed to find such a large gap between the two levels. The instructor eventually slowed down a little bit during the second week but the classes still lacked a structure and did not really connect with each other. We never received a detailed syllubus and the materials handed out to us each day were some sheets photocopied from some unknown workbook. There were no exercises with solutions given for practice and no textbook for reference. I was disappointed with the organization of the school and the quality of the instruction. The administration was willing to move me to the easier section, but I thought that would have been worse in the end."

"I've taken a few short-term intensive courses in different countries and somehow, to my regret, this was the weakest one. The curriculum was far from applied or intensive and very unflexible, considering we were a group eager to talk and interact. My host family was never present to practice with so both of us students lodged there were fishing for other ways to practice. Very tiny rooms which, thanks to the heat wave, got stuffy. There was no fresh air on one side or direct cold blast from AC. Would not be able to recommend this course."

"Tip: I think that many students are interested in taking courses on the long run. In this case, most of them will go to university, which is a cheaper way to study. Indeed, for this school to reach a global market, it could be a good idea to cut its prices, improve its teaching methods and its e-marketing. It could be also great to develop partnerships with other universities. Within few months, it could have a far greater reputation."

"The system of school is difficult for making friends. The students are divided into two groups; the morning group and the afternoon one. Luckily I was in the morning class. If you're a late-nighter for drinking, I recommend to join the afternoon group. Then, you can sleep late into the morning. Otherwise, you would miss many classes."

"The school facilities are excellent in general though, the wifi is slow comparing to another school in Lyon. The host family I stayed for the first week was horrible. I had a impression that they didn't welcome the students, but want to receive only the money. I felt a miserable guest in the family. After talking with the school about this problem, they rearranged another host family immediately. I was very happy with staying at the second one."

"The one and only break comes after 2 hours and 15 min. That is a long time to go without a break. Because the way the classes are set up, everyone must take their break at the same time. So teachers cannot take advantage of natural breaks in the teaching process. Additionally, the material for beginners is photocopied handouts and often, the copies are of poor quality."

"I believe that going 3 hours through classes without a break is pushing the human mind too far, as proved through numerous studies by universities througout the world. After 45 minutes the mind and body needs a quick break. This is why universities, at least in North America, have instigated 5 - 10 minutes break per hour. Again, proven through McMaster University in Hamilton Canada many years ago. Students perform much better when given these quick breaks."
