Location: Fast Forward Institute is located in the extraordinary city of Porto. The school is housed in the city centre, in the heart of the city, with shops, restaurants and much of the city's historic architecture, all within walking distance. As the second-largest city in Portugal, Porto has become renowned for its architecture and blending of the past with the
present, finding itself on the "must-see" destination list of many students and travellers alike. Although the city is small, it has plenty to offer, with everything easily accessible by foot from the school, ensuring students can quickly get their bearings and explore this historical and friendly city.
Course selection General courses are readily available in groups or private lessons, with Executive courses and courses that run in conjunction with lessons in wine or surfing, also amongst the school's favourite choices.
Methodology: Creating a friendly and professional atmosphere, as well as building an effective and enjoyable learning environment for all students, is important to Fast Forward Institute in Porto. The school's focus is on communication, often working beyond books and written exercises, to stimulate conversation between students and teachers.
Social and Cultural: Students are never short of something to do whilst studying in Porto. The Fast Forward Institute like to continue their welcoming atmosphere from the classroom into the evening, with a variety of evening activities and weekend excursions readily available and promoted by the school. Amongst these activities you can find a massive amount of guided tours, informing you about the expansive history of the city, as well as visits to local museums, stadiums, markets and shops, all whilst tasting the finest in Porto's culinary treats along the way.

The surfing lessons will take place on the Praia de Matosinhos, 20 minutes to the west of the centre of Porto. 5 group lessons per week from Monday to Friday, in the afternoons, or on weekends, mornings and afternoons. The lessons are 1.5 hours long. Maximum of 6 students per instructor. Board, wetsuit, insurance and a hot shower are included in the price. The course is available all year round.

“I was very satisfied overall. The location of the school is excellent, although the building is in need of some renovation. However, work is currently underway and the noise level was kept within reasonable limits with the windows closed - not a problem due to the weather. The staff were very friendly and competent throughout. I didn't find it ideal at first that I was in a class with more advanced students without any previous knowledge, but I was able to work more on the ‘basics’ in the afternoon lessons, together with just one other student.”
“The thematic structure of the teaching material could be optimised and the order of grammatical and content-related topics could be improved. Instead of the imperative right in the first lesson, for example, the polite form would make more sense in my view, e.g. doctor's visit, general information, asking for directions. Afternoon activities are offered in a form that offers no added value compared to organising them yourself due to a lack of information or ‘guidance’. Other students reported similar things about a wine tour.”

Lessons on the Group Intensive course delivered at the Fast Forward Institute focus on the active use of the language. The teachers’ goal is to help you develop all the fundamental language skills of Portuguese, which are: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The lessons are 50 minutes long. Maximum of 6 students per group. Available from absolute beginner to advanced levels. Lessons are devoted to learning and practising grammar, as well as vocabulary extension. Nevertheless, the importance of communication is stressed throughout the course. An emphasis is placed on real-life situations through role-plays, conversations and interviews. The training is complemented by discussions about culture, history and current affairs, films, articles and music. The school closes on public holidays. However, missed classes will be made up for at a later date.
