What our students said about Faro
Faro is a compact city, not too big. The centre is nice, and there are many places to stop for a bite to eat. The old centre is architecturally interesting, but so are the modernist buildings outside it, whose beauty only becomes apparent at second or third glance. The cultural offerings are limited, but there is something on offer at the weekend. The train takes you quickly to the towns west and east of Faro. You can get to the beach by boat or bus. However, the train is sometimes delayed and there are not many trains in the evening.
Nice, manageable regional capital; a pleasant place to live. Relaxation begins on the ferry to the beach... City centre very nice, pleasant to go out in the evening. Culturally interesting, partly with beautiful architecture; however, some side streets still have potential for urban development. The public transport system could also be improved.
Everything is within easy walking distance. It's exciting to go on the trail of old buildings or houses, because you don't see them all straight away. The city has very beautiful streets and squares. The air is good there and the “Ria Formosa” nature park is fascinating.
Faro has a few places of interest (churches, old town, etc.), a wide choice of restaurants, several very long beaches outside the city that can only be reached by ferry, bus or car, a large nearby nature reserve (lots of birds).
Faro is not directly on the sea and if you don't have a car, it's quite a hassle to explore tourist spots in the Algarve.
Faro is my dream destination: big enough to have plenty to offer, yet manageable and homely.
An interesting, diverse city with beautiful nature and tranquility right on your doorstep.
The school is well located, easy to access. The staff are super friendly and accommodating
Good destination, maybe I would avoid the summer because it is too touristy.
Due to a train strike I had difficulties in getting to Faro for several days

Faro is an ideal destination for students who wish to discover the "real” side of Portugal. The city offers history and culture set in a relaxing environment, on the shore of Ria Formosa, while having the whole of the Algarve to be easily explored.
