What our students said about Izmir
Izmir is very beautiful. However, almost all of historic Smyrna, including its historic buildings, was lost in the fire of 1922, and what remains has unfortunately been left to decay for the most part. Efforts are being made to rebuild the remaining historic buildings according to preservation criteria. This will do the city a lot of good.
I love Izmir - the sea, the breeze, the colourful hustle and bustle, the good food, the friendly atmosphere and simply the friendly Turks. The city doesn't have too many sights, but certainly enough for a week or two.
Beautiful, green, good transport connections, most streets are clean. Defensive road traffic, traffic lights are respected, zebra crossings not so much. Lots of bars and restaurants, rather mid- to high-priced.
Overall, prices in Turkey are relatively high. Furthermore, the yen is weak, so I can't find any bargains. Nonetheless, Izmir is a safe city, and the food there is quite enjoyable.
The Izmircard is great. The introduction of a similar card in German cities would be a great advantage.
Beautiful, located by the sea; unfortunately many houses in Alsankcak are falling into disrepair
A very interesting city. A kind of Bologna of Turkey, just much, much bigger.
Big beautiful city, lots of walking options, long promenade, great sea views.
It's a good place to live. Very modern. Favourable public transport offers.
Beautiful, big and a lot to see. Very tasty food and more than cheap.
