It is situated in the historic centre of the city, a location rich in history and art. Many people believe that Florence is the birthplace of the Italian language, so the learning experience is as authentic as it can get. ABC Florence maintains smaller groups of students in a personalised and attentive manner while catering to the needs of every student that chooses to enrol at the language school.

Location: The school is located in a Renaissance noble palace, Palazzo Canigiani, in the area of San Niccolò in Oltrarno, a 3-minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio. The large, well-lit classrooms have high, frescoed ceilings and on one side overlook the peaceful Via dei Bardi and on the other, the Arno river. Some of them offer panoramic views, but the prettiest view can be enjoyed from the terrace: from here, Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery, the Arno riverbank, the Palazzo Vecchio and the Cathedral’s dome all make a Gine show off themselves right in front of you.

Course selection: Studying at ABC Florence allows you to choose the timeframe of your course, thus making it a personal experience. Teachers at ABC Florence encourage all students to express themselves independently and to make the most of situations where language skills can be improved.

The ABC Italian language school’s standard group course will allow you to reap the benefits of taking 20 professionally prepared lessons every week while studying in reduced groups of just 9 other students apart from yourself. Each lesson lasts for 45 minutes, with the grammar and conversation classes clearly divided and given their own timetables.

Grammar will be taught in the two classes between 9:00 and 10:30, while conversation classes take place between 11:00 and 12:30.

“Hardly any joint activities, no introduction of the new pupils. Short lessons. Large groups (approx. 8 students). As there were many long-term students in the course, only one grammar topic (conditional) was covered for 5 days. For a 1 week stay, I would have liked to see more topics covered.”

"The landlady was very friendly. But it's not easy when the host family only speaks Italian and the guest doesn't yet, especially at check-in when there are a few things to clarify. The accommodation was very new and modern, the bathroom and kitchen were excellent. The room was small, there was only a small folding board for storage, there were no hooks for hanging up jackets ... The bed would have had to be converted into a sofa every day in order to be able to open the window.

"I thought it was a bit odd to have one hotplate for 10 students. She said there were only 8, but there were 10. There was no stove to fry anything in, either. It was so stupid that I didn't use the kitchen at all. I don't even want to say what I think about 2 bathrooms for everyone. Everyone is a student, everyone has to leave at the same time in the morning.

“Students can normally start any Monday if they speak some Italian. They will take a placement test on the first day and they will be placed with the right group according to their level. If they are interested they may also take an online test before the starting date to check their level. ”
