Location: Nueva Lengua is located in the beautiful historic city of Cartagena, Colombia. The city, enlisted in the UNESCO World Heritage list since the '80s for its cultural and natural attributes, has diverse marine life, spectacular beaches and many historic sites of interest. The school is in the Getsemaní neighbourhood, close to the Plazuela del Pozo and the Puente Román. There are also shops, commercial shopping malls, eateries and restaurants nearby, ensuring students have many amenities within walking distance.
Social and Cultural: All of the courses at Nueva Lengua Cartagena include cultural activities free of additional charges. These activities can include 3 hours of dance class in groups, 1 cooking lesson, and at least 2 visits to sites of cultural interest per week.

“The school's location in the trendy Getsemani neighbourhood is great. The teachers are very nice and sociable and the afternoon programme is very varied. It's also great that on the first day the new students are given a free lunch by the school, so you get to know the new students straight away.”
“The teachers are all very young and some do not have much teaching experience. There is no library. There is definitely a lack of common rooms for students. Most of the inner courtyard is taken up by a pool and in weeks with more students, they pile up in the few free corridors. The two cooks then also have to prepare lunch for the teachers. The organisation was also a bit chaotic, as I had booked breakfast and dinner with a single room with shared bathroom in family accommodation. The school gave the family the information: breakfast with private bathroom. After consultation, dinner was then added. I then paid for the private bathroom directly to the family, as nobody at the school wanted to deal with it (at least that's how I felt).”

"The host mother was super nice and made a great effort to help the students. She also usually sat down to eat with them and tried to motivate everyone to speak Spanish. The large house was in a gated " urbanización", which definitely gave a feeling of security. The only downside was that the school was about a 25-minute walk away, which is a lot in the heat. The food with the host family was delicious, the host mum always prepared local dishes. Unfortunately, there was always a lot of (cheap) rice and very little of the other (more expensive) dishes (frugality is good but sometimes a bit excessive).
