The goal of LSF’s Standard French course is to equip students with the tools they need to expand their knowledge and skills across a broad range of areas, including: listening comprehension, oral expression, reading comprehension, and writing.

A constant theme throughout the course will be using aspects of French culture to supplement the learning that takes place in the classroom, such as topics related to current affairs, social norms, and debates about any range of subjects.

There is constant monitoring of your progress, as participants are expected to take a test every week to closely measure your progress - and to highlight any strengths and weaknesses you might have in your work.

Lessons are scheduled either in the morning or in the afternoon, depending on availability. Morning classes typically run from 09:00, while afternoon classes take place from 14:30. Students are assigned to a timetable and cannot choose their preferred schedule.

“The school is located right in the city center in a historic building and offers high-quality tuition to students from many different countries.”
Quality of teaching / language progress: I wouldn't recommend more than 26 hours per week; otherwise, you won't have any time left to explore the city and the surrounding area.
Other comments: Great and prompt support.

“The weekly changing topics. Everything important was covered and you can easily join in every week. (I booked 3 weeks, 20+6). The teachers were all very welcoming and friendly. Also good: you can change levels during the course. The support was always excellent and there was always someone to talk to. The school is centrally located and there are lots of joint activities on offer. The group size was very pleasant.”
“The rooms were outdated, air conditioning didn't work or wasn't available. This summer makes learning difficult. Only one teacher used Google Classroom, although it should be standard for all teachers at the school. Otherwise, there were more or less good copies and a whiteboard in the room. There is still potential for digitalisation to make lessons more appealing. There were not enough sanitary facilities.”
Insider tip: “Enjoy leisure activities and socialising with other students. Just join in the fun.”
Quality of teaching / language progress: Well-organised private lessons, my teacher (Anissa) was completely responsive to me and made the lessons very practical (crepes baked, restaurant visit), really great; the group course was good, the group size optimal.

“Friendliness and helpfulness, endeavour of the teacher to answer all questions”
“Lessons: too little opportunity to speak, lots of written exercises, hardly any differentiation, previously announced exercises (e.g. opportunity to speak - talk about own city) are only partially carried out, participants who are regularly late are told individually what they have missed (in person), not as a possible repetition for everyone”
Quality of teaching / language progress: Level of participants is too different, requires differentiation
Other comments: Success certainly depends on the respective teacher

“Teacher used Google classroom, she had a very integrated programme, which fostered a lot of high-level conversation. She was constantly challenging us, and at the time supporting us to try new things and expand our vocabulary. It was amazing to see a professional to see her working with students at different levels within the same group giving support and encouragement constantly. We could see the improvement. I was very impressed. Instead of spending time with formal testing, evaluation was based on our oral and written work.”
“There is a large classroom in the basement Foch. The lighting is poor in this room. A few floor lamps would make a big difference.”
Insider tip: “Before accepting accommodation with a host family, I would be contacting the host family to get an idea of what the expectations and accommodations are to see if it’s a good fit.”
Quality of teaching / language progress: The first week was a little intense as I came at the very end of B1. The school and the teacher were very helpful in making sure I was in the right level. It was challenging, but I think I made a lot of progress.
Other comments: The staff in the main office was very helpful. When I needed a doctor, they found one very quickly. They responded to the problems with lodging, and they followed up to make sure that if there was a problem it was resolved.

“The school is super centrally located and can be reached by tram. The on-site team is very well organised. All questions are answered quickly, even in English if your language skills are a little lacking. The lessons are didactically very well organised. There is a good balance of grammar, vocabulary and exercises. There are printed worksheets and also slides via projector. The teaching materials are still available to me for revision after the course. The city of Montpellier is a very good destination. It is a pleasant size, so you can get a good overview of the city after a few days and at the same time there is always something going on. For the weekend: The Mediterranean Sea is not far away.”
“I had classes mainly in the afternoon, which took some time to get used to. In the group sessions, I had many Mexican students who were there for the student exchange. As they went to a regular school in the mornings and were still comparatively young (around 18 years old), concentration and motivation were very slow in the afternoons and only improved over time.”
Insider tip: “Away from school, take in the cultural life, cafés/restaurants, museums, zoo, parks, small shops, ...”
Quality of teaching / language progress: 30 sessions as educational leave are quite demanding with preparation and follow-up of about 1-2 hours per day. But it was fun because I noticed the progress after one week.
Other comments: I will recommend it to others.

“Loved the teacher and the ethos and the approach to teaching. I learnt so much!”
“The quality of the classrooms - some were dark, windowless, airless and facilities were poor. One toilet amongst so many pupils is simply not enough and people were always queuing. Its a shame! I was not aware there was a library? Perhaps some sort of orientation would have been helpful?”
Insider tip: “Do take the time to get to understand the online platform (maybe a workshop would be helpful).”

“The school is in the city centre and is well organised. There is also a tram stop nearby.
The teachers are good and helpful, the lessons interesting.
The environment is very friendly and the students come from all over the world (many from Germany and England).
Essential to get to know the people is the city tour on the first day.”
“The students are divided into several schools located in different places in the city (all in the centre, however).
There is no common place to meet everyone.

“You have to work hard. The teachers (m/f) teach excellently. The program is also very good, but the basic program is also intensive.”
“I found the intensive program in the afternoon less strong than the basic program in the morning. You are forced to speak and that is very good. But the level of the different students (9 to 10) is too different. As a result, the end effect is not good enough for me. I also did this course a few years ago and then I also noticed this negative effect. Furthermore, the classrooms are sometimes very cramped for the number of students crammed into them. I was in Montpellier at a time when it was very hot. The combination of cramped classrooms (with my wife, but not with me) and often no air conditioning in the basic lessons and fans that sounded above speaking level (with my wife) made the course even more tiring. It is also difficult that the platform with the supporting exercises is aimed at laptops and computers. I couldn't use my android tablet and phone properly for certain exercises.”
Quality of teaching / language progress: I don't think I'll do any intensive next time, for the reason mentioned above.

“Organisation”
Insider tip: “Find a group of friends who just want to talk in French, NOT in English.”
Quality of teaching / language progress: Awesome experience. LSF is one of the best-organized schools in Montpellier. Compared to the school of my conference, LSF gave a lot more homework (that's a good thing!) And more indications. They also have an online platform which is really useful and fun, where you can find standard exercises but also interesting videos to practice listening comprehension, and links to movies or video games in French. The teachers I had were all very open and inclusive, and I found the learning strategies very modern and interesting (for example, when we did meditation in class to discuss wellness). Specifically on the DALF race, I was the only one, so I was able to focus on the oral and we did an oral test each lesson (it is likely that this would change in a larger class). The only thing I have to say is that maybe there isn't enough focus on vocabulary, because for that I had to upload a big list of yours. .com, but other than that all good.
Other comments: Lea is super nice and she creates a welcoming atmosphere. But, remember that it also depends on the mentality of each student and if one is proactive / open / without preconceptions to communicate and meet others.

"Lydia complained to me a lot about the second flatmate, which annoyed me quite a bit over time. I had no problem with this roommate! As soon as I set foot in the flat, it often started. Tina had just started French. To get to know each other, we spoke English. That was not allowed. So for a week we just said "good morning" etc. and each went to her room. Also, there is no dining room table, so I always ate alone in my room. Or, if Lydia has been talking a lot, standing up in the kitchen out of politeness. Besides, I don't need to be told how to learn a language by someone who only knows the mother tongue himself. There were no big things, but some little things all the time - at the same time, Lydia made a great effort. Four weeks were still enough.

"The school needs to do a better job vetting lodgings. I had to change after one week because there was no hot water or working toilet and the quality of the breakfast was very poor. My next lodging was better. I would go back there because the person was so welcoming, especially after the difficult first week at the other location, my room was clean, …the rest of the house, not so much. For me it wasn’t a deal breaker but for someone else it might have been. The school did respond quickly to helping me move to another location.

"The host family was typically French. Everything was simple. You shouldn't expect too much here. You have a room to yourself, and I shared the bathroom with an exchange student who also lived with the family. I would rate the hygiene as okay to marginal. In the 2 weeks I was there, the bathroom and toilet were definitely not cleaned. The food was good. Towels and bed linen are provided. It was a bit of a shame that I lived slightly outside the city centre. However, many others lived right in the city centre. It was possible to change host families if something didn't fit.

"I found the accommodation a step too far from the school. It took a good 40 minutes, definitely not the 20 minutes I was told. “The meeting point for all students, regardless of whether they are attending morning or afternoon classes, is at 8.15 am on Monday morning at the LSF School at 6 Rue Foch in Montpellier.

A welcome session takes place at the start of the day.

Afterwards, at 9.00 am, students on the morning courses head to their lessons, whilst those on the afternoon courses take part in a guided tour of Montpellier organised especially for them. (And at 12.15 pm we have a welcome drink.)”

I see it is possible to cancel the course and accommodation up to a week in advance. Would it then be possible to just cancel the accommodation? Although I find the dormitory very appealing, I am also considering looking for a flat share in Montpellier for the time being.
“Yes, you can also just cancel the accommodation and do the course if you prefer to live in a shared apartment. It is best to let us know as soon as you have made your decision so that we can change the booking accordingly. The evaluations by students after they complete a course is excellent. The discount for using your website is also a great incentive. It also would be wonderful if the website would include more cities and a bigger selection of schools in each city.

The service of languagecourse.net is great, I booked already 3 schools and I can highly recommend it. In fact, I tell everybody I meet on my journey in South America about this website and how well everything is organized.

I am very satisfied. I found more/relevant information on your webpage than on the school's website itself. It is the cheapest offer. I'm going to book my next course on your site soon.

Just keep up the good work. The organization is excellent, so that even less experienced travellers would feel ok to come to China. I also felt really good in the host family, they were really great!
