What our students said about Sliema
There were fewer people and tourists compared to Valletta, allowing me to enjoy a quiet life without much noise. Stores remained open until late at night, and I always felt safe. Daily life was mostly free of inconveniences, thanks to the large number of friendly locals. During early spring, the temperatures were milder than I had anticipated. The area was generally clean, although I was concerned about the grittiness and insects.
There are a lot of black flies that are a nuisance. But it is pleasant for shopping and strolling. I can highly recommend hop-on-hop-off. Unfortunately there are no beautiful beaches here.
There seems to be no street and path cleaning. There is a lot of rubbish lying around everywhere. Unfortunately, the permanently strong wind also carries a lot of it into the sea. A pity.
Sliema has a great location. Very close to Valletta (5-6 min by ferry), St John - nearby, airport easily accessible by bus or taxi. Excellent connection to many of Malta's sights
Overall it’s nice. Sliema a convenient city to go all over Malta, expect the fact that buses in Malta are always delayed.
Very nice to walk around with an island very easy to access. Sea at 200m with access to the beach, pleasant setting.
There's a large construction site where a lot of building is going on. It's very lively, with nice restaurants.
Very good base for exploring the island, close to beaches and restaurants. Great connection to Valetta.
Pleasant. However, very heavy traffic on the main road. But not in the back streets. Almost no parks.
Location well connected with the whole island, the problem is the organisation of rubbish collection.

Information about Sliema
Sliema is a lot less hectic than other Maltese cities. The vibe here is more cosmopolitan than the more busy party scenes in the surrounding area. It is packed with accommodation options, so you are bound to find something that fits your requirement during your study abroad experience. Whilst Sliema does not have the island's best night scene, there are still plenty of things to keep you entertained. The city has a vast array of restaurants to satisfy your taste buds with the local delicacies. The shopping is fabulous! The streets are lined with unique boutiques and The Point Shopping Centre is there for those who want known brands. Sliema is definitely a place where you need to leave a little extra room in your suitcase!
Sliema is generally considered to be a residential area, so it is unlikely that you would like to spend all your free time here. It does not have any sandy beaches either for those who want to bask in the Mediterranean sun. Good news though, there is a good bus service connecting Sliema to other cities on the island. You can dip your toes into the busy nightlife of St Julian’s or relax on the sandy beach of Golden Bay after a week of studying English in the calm of Sliema.
