With the Study & Live in your Teachers Home programme offered by HLI, you will live as a guest in your tutor’s home, just as the name suggests. During your stay, you will be given 20 hours of one-to-one classes every week, the content of which is to be decided by you, the student. 20 hours of private classes per week is already a considerable amount of English practice, but you will also have constant access to speaking practice since you can just strike up a conversation with the teacher and their family whenever you are all together.
The school makes a deliberate effort to try to match you with a teacher and family that fits your interests and goals - in particular when the student wants to study specific subject fields, like engineering and so on. Your host family will provide you with three meals every day, so you don’t need to worry about preparing your own food while you enjoy settling into Ottawa.
Your host family will likely give you a tour of the city, in which they might show you the city’s unique public transport option, the SeaBus that connects to Downtown Ottawa, as well as the best stops to use for the buses and the SkyTrain.

With the Study & Live in your Teachers Home programme offered by HLI, you will live as a guest in your tutor’s home just as the name suggests. During your stay, you will be given 15 hours of one-to-one classes every week, the content of which is to be decided by you, the student. 15 hours of private classes per week is already a considerable amount of English practice, but you will also have constant access to speaking practice since you can just strike up a conversation with the teacher and their family whenever you are all together.
