Information about Lapu-Lapu City
Why Lapu-Lapu City? Mactan Island is an island in the Philippines and is said to be the location where the very first battles between native Filipinos and Europeans took place in 1521. In this historic battle, a Portugese explorer Ferdinand Magellan arrived onshore and was killed by one of the island’s most famous rulers, Lapu-Lapu. This is where the island gets its name, an honour to one of the Philippines first heroes. Mactan is a coral island where some of the best diving and snorkelling can be accessed just off the shore. The waters are teeming with rich biodiversity that makes for a great exploration by diving. This also means that there are many beaches, water activities, marine sanctuaries and more.
