Venue: ELS St. Petersburg is run from the campus of Eckerd College in Florida. St. Petersburg Florida has very little in common with the Russian city of the same name, in terms of weather. Referred to as Saint Pete’s by residents, its location on Florida’s Gulf Coast and tropical climate make it a great option for international students. Part of the Tampa Bay area, St. Petersburg is located on a peninsula across the bay from the city of Tampa.

The campus: Eckerd College’s large campus is in the southernmost outskirts of St Petersburg and boasts excellent facilities and its own white sand beach. Should the campus facilities, which are open to all ELS students, and its beach eventually prove to be not enough, the city of St. Petersburg has many unique attractions: the Sunken Gardens, St. Pete Pier, and the completely unexpected Dalí Museum.

Courses: ELS St Petersburg offers English courses for international students in a traditional university setting, where they can mix with native speakers. Courses include General English at different levels of intensity, English for Executives and the American Explorer programme for students who wish to work on their English skills in the morning and be tourists in the afternoon.

ELS Advantage: ELS students who complete the corresponding course levels and who wish to continue their studies in the United States at one of ELS’s partner universities and colleges have the advantage of already fulfilling the necessary language requirements for conditional admission, without further testing.

Getting there: The closest major airport to St. Petersburg is Tampa International Airport (TPA), half an hour’s drive away.

Each ELS level takes 4-weeks to complete so, where possible the school recommends coming for 4, 8, 12, etc. weeks starting on a main start date (every 4-weeks). The school strongly advise against starting in the fourth week of a 4-week session.
