Location: The Discover Summer programme takes place in Shrewsbury School, an independent school about an hour west of Birmingham. The school is a 25-minute walk from the town of Shrewsbury, in the West Midlands of England, and close to the border of Wales. This traditional English town has all the essentials junior students would need for a summer programme. The town has a busy centre with commercial stores, cafes, restaurants and book shops scattered throughout their streets, along with historical attractions including the Shrewsbury Castle and Shrewsbury’s 18th century Jail.
School facilities: Shrewsbury School dates back to 1552, and Charles Darwin is one its most famous students. It blends perfectly traditional architecture with modern facilities. The school has sports pitches, an astroturf, tennis and squash courts, an indoor sports hall, IT suites, an art studio and a theatre.
Course structure: There are 21 hours of English tuition per week, although in the first week there are 18.5 hours. The lessons are divided into improving English skills, English workshops around a specific topic and a presentation at the end of the week.
Trinity Exam centre: The Trinity Exam of spoken English takes place twice a year during the summer months. Students are able to opt for this exam at an extra fee.
Accommodation: Students will stay on campus at the school's residential accommodation, in single or shared rooms up to five students. Bathrooms are shared.
Social programme: There is a full activity schedule in the afternoons and evenings, as well as two excursions per week.

Questions and answers about Discovery Summer
My Japanese daughter is interested in attending the summer camp offered by Discovery Summer in Shrewsbury. Can you guarantee that she won't be placed with other Japanese speakers?
“The summer camps enroll students of various nationalities, including Japanese. The schools try to avoid placing students who speak the same native language in the same room in their accommodations, but in the classroom, students of the same nationality may be grouped. Students are assigned to study groups based on their language proficiency.”
