“The staff were very nice and really seemed to care about the students and how they were doing.”
“One of my teachers obviously had an affinity for one of the students in the class which sort of made me feel left out a few times, not overall, but I think it could have been nicer. The two of them just had a lot in common. I still thoroughly enjoyed the class.”
Insider tip: “Participate in everything, there’s a lot of fun to be had.”
Details of the review
Quality of teaching / language progress: I had a good time in my course and got a lot of opportunity to use my Spanish.Other comments: I really liked the staff. Everybody was so friendly and really seemed to care about how the other students and I were doing and whether I liked it. The classes were high-quality. We did have one morning where there was a little bit of drama when we got new students in our level, and we had an exercise that was not very straightforward even for the two of us who had been in the class previously. Everybody asked us for feedback, and everybody wanted to be proactive about doing something to make it better. It was great. They handled it well and the situation was much improved right away.

“The school worked with us to find the right level to start(A2… lots of head knowledge through Duolingo and Babbel but not much talking) and then continued to ask if we were happy with the progress and the instructors. We did group classes in the mornings and 1 hour of private classes in the afternoons. The group classes were not what I expected. I was thinking they would be more like high school Spanish, lots of grammar and words, memorizing, etc. They were run with a packet containing instructions and exercises in grammar followed by an exercise in reading, writing or listening about some aspect of Colombia or social issues. This got us talking and thinking in Spanish. Our goal was to improve our speaking so this exercise really pushed us! We came in as A2 and left as B2 after 6 weeks.
The activities offered by the school were awesome! It really promoted interaction and relationships between the students and the teacher running the activity. It facilitated getting to know Medellin and how to get around. I would highly recommend attending all the offered activities.”
“Some of the packets had discussions that did not interest me but it seemed that we had to go through each question anyway. Not sure how you solve this as with maybe 4 students in a class, maybe others enjoyed the topic.”

“The teachers are very patient and very friendly. This is actually a rare combination. The management (also teachers) make a lot of effort and also act very spontaneously if a teacher cancels spontaneously or something else comes up. In general, it seemed very organised.
The lessons are very varied. Not just dry vocabulary learning, but also practical references. At the same time, you also learn a lot about Colombia itself. The ladies at reception were also very nice and really helpful.
My course was very small, there were a maximum of 3 of us, although there were also larger courses. There was also a good mix of people (lots of Swiss, but also French, Americans...)
And of course the location is also great. Right in the centre of Poblado, max. 10 minutes' walk to the bars and restaurants and the metro is also within easy reach. I stayed at the school, so breakfast was included. It was very good and there were also other activities on offer in the evenings or afternoons (salsa classes, for example)... Thanks again to Ymer!
And also not to forget the great support from Cologne (Tanja), who was always available and was able to deal with problems and enquiries quickly and easily - ...and also asked questions from time to time.”

“You will definitely have the best time here if consider this place a hostel with amusing activities and a tiny bit of helping with your Spanish.”
“It's not like a real school. The teachers are mostly students and they make mistakes in their own language all the time. But the worst and unacceptable is that they don't listen to students, to their needs. They may ask you but won't change anything. They have their own methods for teaching and if it doesn't help you at all they will say that they have a problem with you. Also they will say that their boss has decided so and you only can accept that.”
Insider tip: “To get the best from the school you have to learn many words in Spanish on your own before coming and then pay for 2 it 3 weeks of individual course, where you can actually direct your teacher into things you need the most.”
Details of the review
Quality of teaching / language progress: They will make you study each small thing for two weeks, literally. You cannot fastener the process. It will lead to conflicts. Also they literally demand from you to already speak Spanish when you come. They won't give you new topics, new words how they do it in high school, but will expect you to speak about everything as if you already knew the language.Other comments: They have accountability of a child 3 y.o. they will never accept their guilt, will never punish a teacher for wasting your money or not caring, they will rather give you the rest of your money back than adjust to your needs.

"Yasineth and Jimmy and their kids were very, very nice, and I really liked hanging around with them. Yaci and Jimmy were going to a party in preparation for the upcoming Feria de las Flores. They asked me if I would like to buy a ticket and go with them and I did and it was amazing. I got to ride in a Chiva with all the people, and it was a unique experience.
