- Class time is shorter than in other schools at 45 minutes per lesson.
Location: Yokohama International Education Academy is located in Japan's second-largest city, Yokohama. The school is a 4-10 minute walk from 4 different train stations, located in the middle of the cultural & educational centres and next to the business district. There are many amenities, restaurants, eateries, shops and several attractions within walking distance of the school. Such attractions include Kamon-Yama Park, the Sail Training Ship Nippon Maru, the Yokohama Landmark Tower, the Yokohama Museum of Art, Yokohama Cosmo World, Nogeyama Zoological Gardens and more.
Course selection: The school has Japanese programmes for long and short stay students, the shortest length of study being ten weeks, for students who do not have a Visa.
School facilities: Yokohama International Education Academy Yokohama is over nine floors throughout two separate buildings. The school's facilities include free WIFI, vending machines, ample natural light in most classrooms and air conditioning and heating in all classrooms.
Accommodation: The school has a residence within walking distance, available to long and short stay students. The residence comes with a kitchen, access to laundry services, TV, air conditioning and a shared bathroom.
Social and cultural: A beautiful port city that many come to explore, Yokohama is close to Kamakura, the old samurai capital, making for a great weekend trip. Mt. Fuji is also a fantastic destination for a day trip.

“The curriculum is very organized and instructors stick to a tight schedule. There are no situations where the class gets behind and has to catch up and fly through material.
I left the class in the middle of the semester, so the instructors provided me with textbook and practice workbook recommendations and samples, as well as extra study material to use on my own after I left the class. They even provided contact information and offered to answer any questions I have in the future. Individual attention is definitely available if you ask them for assistance.”

Other comments: The only social activity offered while I was there was an information session on local colleges. There weren't any other social days on the schedule, so I don't think the school focuses on cultural events for my class type.
I did not use the school's accommodation so I cannot comment on it, hence 3 stars.
Instructors are very kind and patient, but to a fault. I gave them 4/5 because I would have liked more homework and quizzes to get feedback on my learning. This is a minor point; I learned a ton in the short time I was there and wish I could have extended.

Do Japanese teachers use English in their teaching?
“The classes are taught in Japanese only. Teachers use visual flashcards with images when necessary, so even if you are just starting out, you won't have any problems with understanding. When you get used to this method of learning, you will start thinking in Japanese, which means you will start learning the language much faster.”

“Yes, they will. The material covered in class will be presented in the form of tests. Homework will be assigned almost every day. In addition, every two or three chapters of the textbook there will be a comprehension test and regular hieroglyphics tests.”

I have no experience of learning Japanese at all, can I start studying at a language school abroad?
“We accept students who have never studied Japanese before. But to make the start of your lessons easier, we recommend that you learn at least hiragana - Japanese alphabet.”
