What our students said about Seoul

I have been there 3 times now. It is getting more crowded and I notice that there is more and more clutter on the streets...probably due to tourists. For the first time I've been bothered that I find Seoul too crowded and that people are very much on their own...making contact is difficult that is in every country I think. Did have a very nice contact with a Korean woman who had lived in Nedetkand for 10 years. She heard us speaking Dutch and spoke to us. With her and her daughter we made another appointment to chat and drink coffee. It was very cozy.

4.0Willeke Netherlands

Seoul is huge! You can't explore the city in one holiday. You should get tips from the academy on where to go, otherwise you will get lost in the city. If you are travelling alone, it is sometimes difficult to get a table when eating out, but you will definitely find something a few doors down. You'll need a second suitcase for the return journey because you've bought so much stuff ^^

5.0Geraldine

The people are mostly friendly and helpful, but as a foreigner you are sometimes looked at or ignored. Many people here speak little English, so it is helpful to know a little Korean. The public transport is great. The city is really huge and there are unfortunately few green spaces or larger parks. Shopping is very expensive compared to eating out. There are lots of nice cafés.

4.0Nicole Maria Germany

Seoul has truly embraced the future; it’s a blast, safe, and—given the current exchange rate—really affordable (i.e., eating out, convenience stores, going out). Traveling within the country (by train or bus) is also relatively inexpensive. The only thing that wasn’t cheap—or rather, was priced like in Germany—was accommodation (hotels, Airbnb).

5.0Daniel Germany

As a woman, you can get around Seoul safely, even at night. The public transportation is great and I never felt uncomfortable at any time. On the contrary. If you asked for help, you got it. The cafés are great. Sightseeing and shopping opportunities as well as entertainment are not neglected. You can do a lot.

5.0Petra Germany

I am absolutely impressed and already knew on the second day that I had to come back. As a woman, I have always felt very safe, even on the way home at night. The Koreans were very helpful and helped me in every emergency, which impressed me very much and is not something that can be taken for granted.

5.0Pamela Germany

Seoul is very large and diverse. There is a lot to see and do. You can get almost anywhere quickly and comfortably on the subway. You can eat well and cheaply in restaurants. However, it is extremely hot and humid in summer, so sometimes you can only stay indoors.

4.0Max Germany

Seoul is a must-see and very interesting city. At the moment, however, a lot has been shut down due to Corona. You can therefore only visit museums and sights to a very limited extent. For this reason, I can't say much about the nightlife.

4.0Sabine Germany

Seoul is a city that pampers you, everything works, people are very helpful, maybe a little shy, you will have to make the first step, but after that I saw a hospitality and kindness that is very rare!

5.0Stefano Italy

I felt the warmth of the people in the city, who were rather nosy and at the same time really friendly. I could not get used to the dirty toilets for two weeks. Gyeongbokgung Palace was a lot of fun.

The location is great and very convenient since it's so close to Gangnam Station. I was in the Pre-Intermediate class, and the teachers were excellent. I also had amazing classmates, so I really enjoyed my studies.

Easy Korean Academy

I really enjoyed my time at this school. It's important to note that every month, we change teachers and classes. At first, I had a little trouble adjusting. There were about eight or nine students in the class, and the teacher spoke very quickly. I didn't always have time to write down the exercises, and we quickly moved on to the next activity, which made the first week quite difficult for me. The following month, I changed classes and the situation was much better. There were far fewer of us, which allowed the teacher to take the time to explain things. I finally had time to write down the exercises, whereas in the first class it was difficult: I didn't have time to write anything down before we moved on to the next exercise. Despite these differences, I learned a lot and really improved my speaking skills. The teachers are very kind, attentive, and caring.

Lexis Korea

The school offers plenty of activities outside of class, so you naturally get to know other students, even if you come alone. You can also choose optional afternoon classes, so it’s a great environment for studying intensively. The school is located underneath the station, so getting there is incredibly easy.

Quiet location. Air-conditioned. I enjoyed the restaurant evening. The weekly coursebook structure meant that students could enter at any point.
I had two teachers who varied greatly in their ability. There was one pleasant teacher, but she showed little imagination beyond writing drills on the board. The other showed much more imagination in making use of the material at hand. The textbook had far too many drills of the same kind. The classes were mostly so boring I rarely stayed for the full 3 hours. I did learn to practice reading hangeul. But students could have worked through the course books on their own at home, without coming to class; it would have made little difference on the whole. No attempt to bring students together or to set up common areas for social activities (tea and coffee).

Q&A - Questions about Korean courses and schools in Seoul

Can I also book a course with hotel accommodation in Seoul?
Very occasionally we have schools with hotel accommodation, but mostly the schools specialise in host families and/or residences, not hotel accommodation. Sometimes there are schools that offer private flats, like Lexis Korea, for example.

If you book the hotel accommodation yourself, there is a big advantage: you can really compare all schools, because you are not limited to the school that has your desired accommodation.

And we can always ask for recommendations on hotel accommodation once we have found your school.

I am currently attending a university language centre.
How long does it take to get from TOPIK level 2 to TOPIK level 6 if I take one-to-one lessons?
Estimating the time required to reach the highest level, Level 6, from TOPIK Level 2 through one-on-one lessons can be quite challenging. Several factors influence learning outcomes, including the amount of time spent studying outside of lessons, the effectiveness of the learning method that suits you, and the environment in which you practice the language. A realistic estimate is that reaching this level takes more than 18 months of fairly intensive study.

I am looking for a way to stay as long as possible in Seoul with the option to study the language and thus obtain a student visa. Would it be possible to help with the visa process through the schools you advertise on your website?
Unfortunately, only state universities in South Korea can help with student visa procedures. We work exclusively with private schools, so none of the schools we work with will be able to assist you with a student visa.

I would like to book a Korean course very spontaneously. Which school do you recommend?
At Lexis Korea, you can start every Monday, even as a beginner. The school is very quick in processing the documents, so I would recommend Lexis Korea if you want to start spontaneously.
Lisa Schiwy, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 24, 2023
I was wondering if it is possible to study for a couple of months, then leave the country for about 20 days and then come back to study for another 2 or 3 months?
Your questions should be directed towards your embassy or consulate closest to South Korea, or the South Korean embassy, as each person and nationality may have different conditions for their stay in South Korea.
Fraser Provan , LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 25, 2022
I am interested in booking the course but I am scared that I will not manage because the lessons are taught in English. I will be 13 years old next year. Do you have any advice?
Lexis Korea in Seoul organizes courses for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17. No knowledge of Korean or English is required to participate in the course. Before starting the course you will be asked to complete a level test so that you are placed in the correct group.
All the students in your group will be at the same or a similar language level, so you won't be alone! The teachers are very experienced in teaching absolute beginners, you will be in good hands.
Of course, I understand that going so far away is stressful, but I'm sure you will meet peers from all over the world, which will motivate you even more to learn the language.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions about Korean courses in Seoul

My concern is that the exchange rate can fluctuate for payments in KRW, and I thought that if I paid directly, the rate would remain fixed. Is there a way to avoid paying more if the exchange rate drops?
Unfortunately, exchange rate fluctuations are beyond our control and we cannot guarantee a fixed rate for payment of the outstanding balance to our partner schools. However, it is crucial that all bank charges are covered so that the school receives the full amount and does not ask you for the difference on arrival.

My aim is to go to Seoul for a month and leave for Korea in mid-May.
I'd like to know if I need to apply for a visa? Or is a passport enough?
I come from Belgium
We do not provide assistance in this matter. We therefore recommend that you contact the Korean embassy. However, I was able to find some information online (to be double-checked with the embassy): As a Belgian citizen, if you plan to visit South Korea for tourist purposes and stay for less than 90 days, you generally don't need to apply for a visa in advance. Belgium is one of the countries whose citizens can enter South Korea for short-term visits without a visa under the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP).

I'm looking for a school to improve my English at school level in Seoul.
Our only partner school in Seoul offering English courses is Lexis Korea, Seoul. However, the course it offers is specifically focused on preparation for the IELTS exam. If you are interested in this option, please note that you must have at least level B2 to be able to take part in the course.
Madly Simba, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Jul 20, 2023
Do you offer Junior programmes in Seoul?
Currently, the only Junior programme we have for Seoul is for students between 13 and 17 years old. Our partner school Lexis Korea offers this course during the summer only.

The evaluations by students after they complete a course is excellent. The discount for using your website is also a great incentive. It also would be wonderful if the website would include more cities and a bigger selection of schools in each city.

The service of languagecourse.net is great, I booked already 3 schools and I can highly recommend it. In fact, I tell everybody I meet on my journey in South America about this website and how well everything is organized.

I am very satisfied. I found more/relevant information on your webpage than on the school's website itself. It is the cheapest offer. I'm going to book my next course on your site soon.
