Venue: Academia El Capitan is a Spanish language institute located in the popular destination of Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria, Spain. The school is housed within walking distance of the city centre and has many amenities, services, restaurants and sights of social and cultural interest close by. Such places within walking distance of the school include Calle Triana, the Teatro Perez Galdos, Parque San Telmo, the Mercado de Vegueta and many more.
Course selection: The school provides a range of Spanish courses, with something suitable for students of all levels. In addition to General Spanish taught over several schedules and intensities, the school also provides Business Spanish programmes and DELE Exam Preparation courses.
Accommodation: The school can supply accommodation in homestays with local families or shared flat facilities, subject to availability.
Host families are carefully selected to ensure the best of experiences whilst in Gran Canaria.
The shared flat is a short walk from the beach and is close to many shops, eateries and areas of entertainment.
Additional information: Gran Canaria has a year-round temperature that is warm and generally sunny, making it a fantastic destination the whole year round.

“I have been to many Spanish language schools in many places. Unfortunately, often only for one week. This was also the case here, unfortunately. Initially, I was a little shocked by the extra fee to be paid for the teaching material that was announced. That would certainly be a considerable extra charge for the one week and yet just another marginally used textbook at home in the cupboard.... . However, I was able to borrow the book on site for the one week. The price was reasonable. I found the level of the school to be very good. The level of the class members was appropriate. The rooms were pleasant and appropriate, and the location in the Triana district was very good. Our teacher was simply top!”

“The teachers seem absolutely enthusiastic about what they do and are in a great mood every day. Their positive energy ensures motivation and fun in class. Most of the lessons are held in Spanish, and unknown words are first explained in Spanish. At least that is the case in the A2 course. Small groups and joint breaks, which are used to practise speaking! Much emphasis on speaking, writing is practised less. Homework, variety of teaching methods...”
“In my opinion, the borrowed/purchased book was used very little, but there were a lot of worksheets.”

Quality of teaching / language progress: It was a joy. Quite challenging at times, but fun. Our teacher Pilar was fabulous and kind and helpful. Our classmates delightful. All of it memorable.Thank you all for a wonderful 4 weeks of happy learning and related activities.Other comments: The staff and teachers also embody the best qualities of this fabulous archipelago. Serious Spanish within a professional framework but gaining much more thanks to the location and spirit of place.

“We had a small class ranging (over a month) from 4 to 6 students. All were friendly and supportive and created a fine ambiance for learning. Our teacher, Pilar, was also very friendly, supportive and highly competent.”
Insider tip: “I would suggest that students try to use the weekends to see other parts of the island; to hire a car if possible. Gran Canarias has much to offer and it would be a shame not to venture beyond Las Palmas. We found the cultural progam very enjoyable and informative and it was a pity that we were the only ones to take advantage of it.”

Quality of teaching / language progress: My only criticism of the school relates to the ambient noise in the classroom. This is not the fault of the school, but rather of the building conditions that are common in Las Palmas.Other comments: We enjoyed our time with the administrators of the course, Monika and Angel, when we participated in the cultural program. Both were friendly, informative and great company.

Quality of teaching / language progress: I had an amazing time at the school. I ended up having private classes and they were great, interactive and fun! The quality was really high and I managed to get through the entire Level A1 in 2 weeks (with having some prior knowledge). The school also organises outdoor classes where you can go and talk to locals which is extremely helpful and a wonderful learning experience. I have learned a lot about the culture and history of Spain and the Canary Islands and highly recommend this school!Other comments: Muchas gracias amigos!
