What we like about the school

What we dislike about the school
- Cancellation fees for students having to cancel due to visa rejection.
- Class time is shorter than in other schools at 45 minutes per lesson.
The school building with its Andalusian style, its friendly classrooms and its beautiful patio retains much of the charm and intimacy of a family home. It is situated in a quiet location just 10 minutes away from the city centre.
Location: Escuela Montalbán Granada is located in the culturally rich, Andalusian city of Granada, in the south of Spain. Housed in the residential area of Barrio Figares, the school enjoys a family atmosphere and has many amenities and services close by. Within walking distance of the school are attractions and sites of interest such as the Fuente de las Batallas, the Cuarto Real de Santo Domingo, the Fuente de Las Granadas and more. The Alhambra is around a 35-minute walk from the school.
Course selection: Escuela Montalbán Granada provides Spanish courses suitable for students of all levels, various interests and over several schedules and intensities. In addition to General Spanish, the school also provides Spanish at a Teacher's Home, Writing & Conversation programmes, private tuition and several combination courses of Spanish with additional subjects such as Arabic Culture, Culture Workshops, Federico Garcia Lorca and Walking tours with photography.
Social and cultural: The school promotes Spanish and Andalusian cultures, offering students a vast social programme throughout the year. Attractions and excursions can include trekking and horse-riding in the Sierra Nevada, guided tours, wine tastings, theatre shows, flamenco events and much more.

The Photo Walks program includes 2 weekly routes (approximately 3-4 hours each) with a guide. It combines the Intensive 20 course with 1 guided photo walk per week, accompanied by a local photographer. The group size is limited to 1 or 2 students.
The excursions involve a photographic stroll through the city, capturing its iconic places and discovering hidden spots in the Albaicín or Sacromonte with new perspectives. While having a reflex camera is beneficial, it is not required. Participants will receive a handbook on landscape photography and composition.

“I took classes for one month, and it was so enjoyable because my classmates changed almost every week. I met many different people, as the students ranged widely in age, from teenagers to post-retirement seniors.
The teachers also rotated, allowing me to take lessons from four different instructors. While three continuous 90-minute classes every day were tiring, the days were incredibly fulfilling. The school's tapas event was also great fun.”

“The private DELE preparation lessons were beneficial, especially because I could have my writing assignments corrected. However, for the reading section, the instructor did not have the answer key, and in some instances, the answer provided by the teacher was uncertain. I believe this shows a lack of preparation on the school's part.
When I had to miss a day due to illness and contacted the administration, I received no information about rescheduling the class.
The school building feels old, and with only two restrooms, queues can form during busy periods. The lack of air conditioning would likely be challenging in the middle of summer.”

Even if there were some cultural or social activities planned, they were cancelled because there weren't enough students to carry out such activities. It was the first time that I took such a lesson, and his way of teaching is very practical, creative, and a lot of fun! “I particularly liked the humor and ease with which the teachers approached the lessons. This immediately created a relaxed, positive and extremely funny learning atmosphere in our group. The focus was on the conversation, but there were plenty of suggestions through various exercises and games. Grammar and vocabulary were then incorporated rather incidentally.”

Other comments: The school is small and neat, with a beautiful inner courtyard. In the immediate vicinity there are a churreria and various tapas bars, as well as smaller hotels. The private accommodation may be appropriate for schoolkids and students, otherwise I would definitely recommend looking for the accommodation yourself.

“The thing that I liked most about the school is that they managed to make learning Spanish fun. Normally during my classes in University the classes seem to take forever. But in Escuela Montalban time passes like no other. This is definitely because of the teachers the school employs. All teachers keep you engaged throughout the entire class with fun games, constantly asking questions, fun current topics to talk about.”
Insider tip: “I would definitely recommend that you stay for a minimum period of 4 weeks so that you can really feel at home in the Spanish culture. Trust me, if you decide to take a language course here you will not be disappointed.”

Other comments: Besides the awesome teachers Escuela Montalban has, they also make sure that you experience Spanish culture to the fullest. They plan cultural activities every day and on weekends they even offer scuba diving, hiking in the Alpujarras, and a weekend in Morocco. I cannot wait to go back!

"I encountered one big cockroach! It is Spain, so it cannot be helped probably, but I got scared and had to wait in the bathroom until it disappeared from the hallway. The apartment itself was good, including the weekly cleaning by the cleaning ladies, but spraying or some other device to get rid of cockroaches should be done regularly.
