What our students said about Antigua Guatemala

Antigua has already become very touristy. One has noticed the rise in prices (I was there before), especially in restaurants. In the vicinity of Antigua or outside, it is much cheaper. However, there are possibilities to eat somewhere "cheaper" - but it is also nice to have the "comfort". There are many things to do in Antigua, both inside and outside the city (though not during classes, as these are more like half-day or full-day excursions). Everything is within walking distance (SUPER!), otherwise you can quickly take a cheap Uber. As a woman, you are also safe on your own in the evenings. As for the cleanliness: it is rather the air that is not clean. There were some who had respiratory problems (nose is always "full or closed", coughing etc.) - i.e. not recommended for asthmatics (but not a knock-out criteria).

5.0Monika Germany

I gave 5 all around because I personally lacked for nothing. Restaurants, cafés, bars, bakeries and salsa bars abound in the pretty old town. At the market, you could buy everything from A to Z. Expensive fashion clothes aren't really my thing anyway, so I'm absolutely satisfied with the service here too. There are also plenty of excursion options. A great place to learn Spanish and Salsa.

5.0Simone Germany

The atmosphere in the city is very pleasant, and even strangers greet you when they make eye contact with you. However, since it is a tourist area, prices are not so economical, depending on what you are looking for. A meal at a restaurant costs over 1,000 yen. I walked around at night and took buses, but I didn't find anything dangerous.

4.0Kana Japan

Antigua is a very relaxed and modern small town with great excursion possibilities, numerous restaurants and small, sometimes extravagant cafés + bars and above all very hospitable locals. The people are so chilled and approachable at all times, you really feel at home and even after dusk you don't have to worry.

5.0Lydia Germany

The city is lovely, and the people are generally very welcoming to foreigners. However, this can also be a problem, as locals may seek to take advantage of this by charging higher prices. Foreigners often end up paying more in stores and have to do a lot of negotiating, which is not ideal.

5.0Marcos Baptista Brazil

I think Antigua is a very nice city. There is a lot of security which makes me feel safe as a solo female traveler. There are many sights, activities, restaurants, entertainment options (until 1:00) and a beautiful volcano hike!

5.0Luca Netherlands

I am certain that Antigua is one of the cities which is very safe. There are many restaurants, cafes, shops, laundries, bakeries and etc., so it is very convenient not only for students but for tourists too.

5.0Kenji Japan

Antigua Is a very scenery City with lot of things to do, you can do anything you like. Many places to see and shops to discover. It's in close proximity to the sea 2-3h and the food is just amazing.

5.0Andreas Germany

They really have to get rid of the Cars, motos and tuctucs in town. Air Pollution it a big Problem there. Apart from that is it a perfect place to learn Spanish.

5.0Ulrich Germany

Beautiful city, great views of volcanoes, beautiful trees and plants. sadly alot of pollution from diesel. I do want to visit again!

I was in a small group and our teacher was great. She emphasised communication above all. The afternoon activities on offer were OK, but I would have liked more activities with less expense when travelling. The pick-up from the airport worked really well. The introduction was good. There are also some older students.

Information about Antigua Guatemala

Why Antigua Guatemala? Antigua, the once capital of the military governor of Guatemala, was founded in the early 16th century. Built 1,500 m above sea-level, in an earthquake-prone region, it was largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1773 but its principal monuments are still preserved as ruins. During three centuries time the city, which was built on a grid pattern inspired by the Italian Renaissance, acquired a number of superb monuments.

The dry season in Antigua Guatemala is from November to April.
Ana Carolina Dos Santos, LanguageCourse.Net - Apr 01, 2024
What kind of course do you recommend for a 75+ student?
I often hear from 75+ that 20 group lessons a week is quite a lot. The schools in Antigua Guatemala also have an option for 10 group lessons per week (2 lessons per day). Maybe that appeals to you, combined with private lessons so you can set your own pace more?
Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.Net - Aug 29, 2023
I am looking to go to La Union and I want to book accommodation in a single room. Is it possible?
Yes, the school can organize a single room for you. All the students receive lodging in a private room, including 3 meals daily Monday through Saturday (vegetarian and vegan meals can be arranged), with a hot shower, shared bathroom, and purified water.
