Privacy Statement

We take your privacy seriously and take all the necessary steps to protect your data. Within this document we openly outline what data we collect, for what purposes this data is used, and give further privacy related information.

This privacy statement governs our apps and online learning tools, which are provided to you by LanguageCourse SL, Carrer Casp 46, 5C, 08010 Barcelona Spain. You can contact us at vt@languagecourse.net with any questions or concerns about this privacy statement.

Our service is subject to the terms and conditions and this privacy statement.

1. Type of Data Collected

1.1. Personal Data

Upon registration we collect basic data such as name, user name, password, email and IP address. We may collect within forms (such as the learning plan) some further information that users fill in within the app or on the website.

Data such as username, country, language, score, number of words learnt, total time of usage are accessible to other users (e.g. via high score lists).

Additional data provided voluntarily in the personal profiles may also be accessible to other users.

1.2. Cookies

A cookie is a small amount of data that is used to identify users, remember their preferences, language settings, identify usage time and type of device and to automatically log in users after initial registration. Cookies are stored on the user's device. Both permanent and session cookies are used. For the same purpose also pixel tags or HTML5 storage (locally stored objects) may be used.

In order to make your experience with our app and website more pleasant, we keep some information in cookies, so that you don't need to provide it in the future. This permanent information includes personal data such as username, email and unique user identifier. This data is only stored in your device and shared with our servers, but in no case is it distributed to any third party. We also include some session data (that is discarded once you close the app or browser) about the current status of your open courses and the time spent in the app. This data is also shared only between your device and our servers, in order to keep your account up-to-date on every device.

We also include some third party cookies that help us to give you a better service, in order to detect possible errors in our app. These third parties are Crashlytics and Analytics. They collect anonymous information which cannot be related to you personally in any way. We define these cookies more thoroughly in section 1.4.

You can configure your browser to deactivate cookies. In this case however our service may not be fully functional.

When you use the app, these cookies cannot be disabled, so, by accepting this privacy policy, you also accept the cookies stored and shared in the app.

1.3. Log Files

Systems protocols are saved in a standard log file format. The data in these log files may include the IP address of user and the IP address of the device requesting the page, the duration of the connection, and the operating system version. This data is used solely for statistical analysis and product improvements.

1.4. Google Analytics and Crashlytics

Google Analytics is an analytics service provided by Google, Inc based on cookies (small amount of data saved on user's device) to collect statistical information. These cookies used by Google Analytics may save the IP address of the user, but neither LanguageCourse.net nor Google will use the IP address in the Google Analytics cookie to relate it to any other personal information. Crashlytics is an analytics service specifically designed for apps provided by Crashlytics, Inc. (USA). The service assists in identifying crashes and failures in apps to facilitate app improvements. Cookies are used to collect information. These cookies may contain information about the device, operating system, failure type and IP address. 1.5. Special Case: Signup via Facebook and Google

Users who opt to sign up for our service using their Facebook or Google accounts also share the following information: id, name, picture, gender, current city, primary email address. We may also collect any additional data that the user voluntarily opted to make public.

We will never post any kind of content to a user’s Facebook or Google+ profiles without the user's explicit permission.

1.6. Personal Word Lists

Users can choose to create their own word lists and courses including images and audio. This data may be saved both on the user's device as well as on our servers. The user can decide whether their personalised word list is shared with other users.

1.7. Emails / Newsletter

We may send emails to users. These emails may be to inform users about login details, about the services of LanguageCourse SL, tips about learning techniques and other services or products for learning languages by us and our partners, reminders and encouragement to keep on track with the user’s learning objectives and course, as well as statistics on course progress. Users can easily opt out of receiving regular emails via an unsubscribe link included in the footer of all emails.

We record the addresses of emails which could not be delivered. We may use tracking codes in the images and/or links of the mail in order to collect data on email opening and click rates.

2. Purpose of Storing the Data

The data is collected in order to be able to provide, maintain and develop the offered service, as well as for product improvements, bugfixing, research, statistical analysis, optional communication with external social networks and information of our users.

One key purpose for the collection of data is to provide to users the functionality of user accounts, enabling access to the users progress from different devices. We will retain your information for as long as your user account is active. We may also retain and use your information in order to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes,prevent abuse, and enforce our agreements. By consenting to this privacy policy you are giving us permission to process personal data specifically for the purposes outlined in this document. Consent is required for us to process your personal data and must be explicitly given. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us using contact details at end of this document.

3. Exceptional Conditions under which Personal Data may be shared with Third Parties

Personally identifiable data such as email addresses are generally not shared with any third party. Exceptions are only the following cases:

1. Legal Requirement: We may be required to disclose personally identifiable information pursuant to lawful requests such as subpoenas or court orders or in compliance with applicable laws.
2. User has given explicit consent.
3. Where we believe that it is necessary to share the information in order to investigate, prevent or take action against illegal activities or damages to our own service.

4. Links to External Sites

We may link to external websites and are not responsible for privacy practices of any external websites and recommend users to consult the privacy statements of other sites when they leave our service.

5. Confidentiality and Security

We take measures to protect personal data using industry standard physical, electronic and procedural security safeguards. However data transmission via the internet cannot be guaranteed to be 100% secure. We will instigate civil and criminal proceedings against any attack by hackers and the like and will inform the users of any case where their personal data may have been compromised.

6. Information, Correction and Deletion

We will give users access to any personal information we hold about them within 30 days of any request for that information. Individuals may request to access, correct, amend or delete information we hold about them by contacting us. Unless it is prohibited by law, we will remove any personal information about an individual from our servers upon request. There is no charge for an individual to access or update their personal information. Any such requests should be submitted in writing. Any information edited by the user in the user profile automatically overwrites prior entries. We cannot guarantee deletion of data outside of our own systems.

7. Changes to the Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. You can review the most current version of the privacy policy at any time at the following link:

Your continued use of our service/app/site after any such changes have been made constitutes your acceptance of the new privacy policy. Should a user object to any changes, the user should discontinue the use of our service.
