Venue: Country Cousins is based in North Devon, England, in the coastal town of Ilfracombe. It is headquartered within Channel School of English, on the edge of Ilfracombe’s main public park, Bicclescombe Park. Ilfracombe is rich with history, inhabited since the Iron Age when it was home to a Celtic hill fort. Written record of the settlement dates back to the eleventh century, the parish church dates from the thirteenth century and the town lighthouse was integrated into a fourteenth century chapel on Lantern Hill. In modern times the town is best known for its beautiful coastline and as a seaside resort.
The school: Dating back to the early 1950s, Country Cousins is possibly one of the oldest summer language camps in England. It is a boutique school with a maximum capacity of 280 students. Country Cousins has many activities programmes for students to choose from in addition to their main English language courses: horseback riding; surfing; sea water sports; street dancing; beach volleyball; sports science; tennis; ball sports; and exploring Devon.
P.A.L.S.: Country Cousins’ summer camps include a special programme which integrates local teens into their activities programmes, giving students a chance to socialise with native speakers their own age and also giving the local teens the opportunity to get to know kids from many different countries. The P.A.L.S. (Promoting Acceptance of Language Students) programme has received an award from the British Council.
Getting there: The closest airport to Ilfracombe is at Exeter (1.25 hours away), next is Bristol (2 hours) and London Heathrow is 4.5 hours away by car. Country Cousins can arrange pickup service for all three arrival airports as well as London’s St. Pancras railway station.

This course is perfect for energetic students eager to try new sports, offering an exciting introduction to various coastal activities. Nationals from USA do not require a visa to study short term courses up to 180 days. A valid passport and an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is required to enter the UK. The application for the ETA is done online https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta. The answer is expected within 3 working days, costing GBP 16. The ETA allows multiple entries in the country for up to 6 months for a maximum of 2 years or until the passport used when applying expires.
