What we like about the school
  • Free assistance in finding flats for long-term students.
What we dislike about the school
  • Nationality mix could be more balanced. 60% of students are from USA

Location: The school is located in the heart of the historical downtown of Queretaro. Situated in the historical downtown district of the city, which has been declared a “Cultural Heritage of Mankind” by UNESCO , OLE has plenty of interesting attractions close by. It is a short walk from the River Querétaro and the Puente de los candados.

Getting around: The downtown quarter is very central within the city. Most of the attractions in Queretaro are in the centre including museums about the history and art of the region as well as some interesting temples. There are bus services from OLE that go to El Cerrito Archaeological Zone, for students wanting to immerse themselves in the archaeological history of the region. The local bus lines for this usually take around 60 minutes depending on the time of day. Bus is the preferred transportation option in the city, and there are many routes that reach the suburbs of Queretaro.

Programmes: The school teaches Spanish classes in a range of styles. For those wanting to learn the basics of the language, there are general classes with different levels of intensity to cover the students' different learning styles. There are executive classes for a high level of commitment, which consist of group classes and private lessons for fast learning. The DELE exam preparation course is designed for students who want to pass this official Spanish exam.

Accommodation: OLE has full board, breakfast only and self catering homestay options for students who want accommodation during their stay.

You will take 4 hours of classes every day, coming to a total commitment of 20 hours per week. OLE academy uses the tried and tested methodology of working on the four main skills of language acquisition: reading, writing, speaking and listening.

The type of activities focused on in the lessons follow a clear rotation every day, with grammar study receiving an hour and a half, vocabulary half an hour, and diverse workshops for one hour. This course is suitable for a wide range of people in different situations, including students, or those already in work.

An interesting feature of this course is that the teachers are rotated on a weekly basis, and this will give you the chance to benefit from different teaching styles, as well as the opportunity to comprehend different speakers - rather than just the same person for the entire course.

This course can also be taken online.

"1. I performed the examination to assess the appropriate level prior to going to the school but for some reason this was never passed on to the teachers. Fortunately I had a printed copy with me so this was corrected reasonably quickly. 2. The school arranged a walking tour of the city centre but I felt could have offered more help and information regarding tours of the surrounding region, particularly the Sierra Gorda. Local tour companies would not take reservations for one person and it might have been helpful to know if other students would have been interested in taking this kind of tours."

"Some teachers were boring and didn't seem to have a clear plan for teaching. When I taught first grade, I was required to have a lesson plan for the month, week and day. Some did some didn't. I also would have liked to practice more talking with other students who were at my level or beyond my level, and to listen more to native speakers to try to get used to the speed. "

“I had classes for 7 hours per day with some excellent teachers, and those with whom I did not ‘click’ as well were traded out without question. Maestros talked to each other so they all focused on related topics (forms of subjunctive) for a thorough coverage.”
“NOT the school’s fault, but it was a slow time and I was one-on-one all of the time: excellent opportunities to learn and focus on what I needed, but exhausting.
There is a “library,” but there were No books in Spanish to practice reading or grammar outside of class - only English books left by former students. Fortunately, I’d brought my own.”

“Everyone was very friendly and welcoming.”
“Some teachers didn't seem to have a clear structure. Some teachers were boring, and not dynamic and interesting. Some were.”
Insider tip: “Go to this school when they are not entertaining any university students.”
Quality of teaching / language progress: Some teachers were boring and didn't seem to have a clear plan for teaching. When I taught first grade, I was required to have a lesson plan for the month, week and day. Some did some didn't. I also would have liked to practice more talking with other students who were at my level or beyond my level, and to listen more to native speakers to try to get used to the speed.
Other comments: There should be a very strict DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH policy. When I was in Cuernavaca years ago, they would fine anyone speaking English. They hired little kids to run around to listen, and would write up a ticket to pay a fine. It was VERY effective!

"My unit (bedroom /bath) was isolated from the rest of the family, so there was no interaction when I was in my room. The other students always spoke English. That was the reason I didn't bring my husband along. I knew he'd speak English, so it was frustrating to hear so much English, not only in the homestay, but also on campus. Teachers did not insist on a strict Spanish only rule on campus. The other problem with the homestay was that I was being bitten by mosquitos to an uncomfortable level. So much so that after the first night, I checked into the Gran Hotel and asked for a room without a balcony. I think I would have preferred a homestay where the host did not know English. That way they have no options but to speak Spanish. I know the school had many students, but I would have preferred to go at a time when an entire university of young students was not present. That way English would not have been such an issue. Staff was delightful and went out of their way to be helpful, and Manuel was also very friendly and helpful as the only teacher I had for both weeks.

The evaluations by students after they complete a course is excellent. The discount for using your website is also a great incentive. It also would be wonderful if the website would include more cities and a bigger selection of schools in each city.

The service of languagecourse.net is great, I booked already 3 schools and I can highly recommend it. In fact, I tell everybody I meet on my journey in South America about this website and how well everything is organized.
Gabriele Ragger verified client
I am very satisfied. I found more/relevant information on your webpage than on the school's website itself. It is the cheapest offer. I'm going to book my next course on your site soon.

Your service was excellent, really following up and holding my hand.! My older step-brother used your service a few years ago to study Spanish in Salamanca and Granada and we found LanguageCourse.Net so helpful then as well.

Just keep up the good work. The organization is excellent, so that even less experienced travellers would feel ok to come to China. I also felt really good in the host family, they were really great!
