What we dislike about the school
  • Lessons are 45 minutes long, which is shorter than in other schools.

Location: The school is in the College of Mount St Vincent, a renowned private college in New York. The college is found in the borough of New York known as The Bronx, to the north west in the North Riverdale neighbourhood. This is a residential area of The Bronx, bordering Van Cortlandt Park on one side and the River Hudson on the other. To get to the centre of The Bronx, students can take a number of bus routes from the stops around the school. It is here that the New York Botanical Garden is.

Exploring New York’s Attractions: Students can reach the Ludlow Train Station in 11 minutes by bus. This station has the Hudson Line, which stretches down the coast of the Hudson River, all the way to Grand Central Station in Midtown Manhattan. This train ride takes 30 minutes. Alternatively, there are a number of bus routes that reach this part of New York in around an hour and 15 minutes. Once in the centre of Manhattan, it is easy to visit its main features including the Empire State Building and Times Square. Students can use the various subway stations to navigate to Lower Manhattan to see the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge.

Course structure: There is a selection of general English courses at Kings in New York. The school offers a vacation course for those who want to extend their general course and include an excursion or optional activities to add to their learning experience. A TOEFL package, Diploma course and academic preparation programme are available for students wanting to further their education. The English for Fashion, Art and Design course explores the use of the English language within this field. A junior programme takes place in the summer months for younger students.

Chain school: Kings is a number of well-established English language schools in the UK and USA. They understand that learning English is a journey, and there are different needs for the language as this progresses. As a result of this, each school provides a range of courses to cater for these requirements ranging from exam courses, academic programmes, diplomas and courses for specific fields of study such as business. Kings has partnered with academic establishments worldwide to help students transition into furthering their education at a university in either the UK or the USA.

Quality of teaching / language progress: Varied lessons that were a lot of funOther comments: I was very happy with everything and had a great time; Kings is definitely to be recommended. It was especially cool to live on a campus with real American students and share the school building and cafeteria; you won't get that chance again so quickly.

FAQ about Kings, New York

I (18) and my brother (16) would like to spend four weeks in New York in July. We would like to stay at a residence that perhaps has a gym structured for basketball.
“At the time of writing (2024), our partner school Kings in NY offers courses for students from the age of 16. The school has tennis, basketball and football courts. ”
