Position in Miami: Open Hearts Language Academy is found in Brickell which is the financial centre of Miami. It is filled with high-rise buildings and rooftop bars overlooking Biscayne Bay. The school itself is right on the edge of the bay, and a short walk from the Brickell City Centre, which is often described as the centre of Miami itself.
Moving around the city: The school is a 15-minute walk from a large transportation hub in Brickell. There is a train station, tram stop and a number of bus routes all leaving from this central location. It is very easy to navigate Miami using one of these transportation options.
Things to see: Miami is filled with shopping experiences, cultural activities, museums, theatres, music venues, nightlife and all the things you expect from a city. The school is across the Miami River from Downtown Miami, where there is the Miami Tower and other cultural venues to visit. Miami Beach is an excellent place to visit to enjoy the contrast between city life and a relaxing beach break. This area of the city is around 45 - 60 minutes by public transportation from the school.
Course structure: General English is taught at the school in a range of intensities to accommodate the different learning needs of the students. Exam preparation courses in both IELTS and TOEFL are possible at the school. These can be combined with a general English course, or come as a complete package where the focus is on passing the exam.

“I flew back to Germany after just one week due to dental surgery, so I can only give a very limited assessment. Tomorrow I have another appointment with the oral surgeon; I had imagined everything to be very different. On the first day, there was a placement test, then on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday there were lessons from 9:00 to 12:45, and on Friday there were free lessons in a different class composition, whereby my Friday class consisted exclusively of people who live and work in Miami. Overall, it was very interesting and informative for me.
I agreed with the school that the Spark Portal Keynote Advanced would remain open for me for the online course so that I can continue learning at home at my own pace, which is going quite well. Before the course, I had no idea where I stood with my English skills, so now I can calmly prepare for the C1 exam in 2026. They are even giving me the opportunity to make up for the three weeks of course I missed until October 2026. My stepson lives with his family in Miami, so it is possible that I will take them up on their offer.”

“I had already informed Julia about the weak point I noticed on the first day, namely that there was no possibility of buying the textbook at the school. There were several people in my class who didn't have a book and followed the course on their cell phones. My family gave me the opportunity to use a 27" screen. We ordered the book from Amazon, and it was delivered, but I was already back in Germany by then. Here at home, I can also work on a large screen, so no problem.”

“With B1/B2 visa status, you would be able to take a programme with anything under 18 hours of tuition per week, for up to 12 weeks.
As the 20 lessons on the Semi-Intensive English Course are 50-minutes in duration each, your weekly tuition would be under 18 hours, hence, you could take the course with a B1/B2 visa. ”
