Special note for 2027 holiday season: If you plan to take a course during the high season months of April, June, July or August 2027 we urgently advise you to book as early as possible. In 2026 many schools were fully booked during the holidays and the situation is unlikely to be different for 2027 due to a current shortage of teachers, which affects most schools.

“Everyone is super friendly. There was an afternoon activity every day from Monday to Friday.”
“I was on the C1 course. The grammar we repeated was very, very "basico", so I didn't learn anything. I would have expected more from a C1 course.”

“I liked Yulia, the Spanish teacher very much (Yulia organized the lessons in a colourful mix of games, vocabulary and grammar); Nathalie also taught the leisure activities to us 50+ students well and very sympathetically.”
“The Residencia Olarain was, in my opinion, too far away or remote. 40 minutes on foot is too long. I always took the bus, had a Barik card, and a good 15 minutes to the beach is too long for me.”

Quality of teaching / language progress: Lacunza provided an additional class for seniors (1.5 hours) which was excellent! It provided an environment where we could practice speaking Spanish without feeling any pressure of the usual classroom environment. Rosa, our teacher, was excellent and also took the class on some city excursions.

"The accommodations were not what I expected for total immersion. My host family worked full time, 6 days a week. We had no time together or activities. When at home they were in their room on their phone, so I stayed in my room. She provided wonderful food, but was not patient to try and have conversation. Communication was solely for coordination of meals or logistics and translator app was used! This was most disappointing!

"My hostess was super nice and helpful. And I certainly don't want to cause her any problems. Nevertheless, I would like to give some feedback on the breakfast: there was only oat milk and yoghurt, cornflakes and waffle toast without a crust. Also coffee and tea (the latter had expired, I'm afraid). And bananas. I certainly don't expect a German breakfast, but it was a bit unkind. I then bought my own food. Come to think of it, only Manuela in Salamanca really made an effort. So next time I will probably book without food.

"I would have liked breakfast to have been a little more varied, because otherwise it was the same every day: milk, cornflakes, toast, (frozen) butter and peach jam plus coffee. Maybe a fruit or juice here and there would be good.

Questions and answers about Lacunza Escuela Internacional

Can I bring my dog to class?
“Unfortunately, we've come to a point where we are forced to only allow service dogs at the school; if that is the case, the dog is totally allowed.”
Sara, Student Care from Lacunza Escuela Internacional, San Sebastian - Dec 03, 2025
Does the school have an OID for Erasmus+?
“Our PIC number for the Erasmus+ is 927243759.”
Sara, Student Care from Lacunza Escuela Internacional, San Sebastian - Dec 03, 2025
Does the school have classrooms with windows?
“Yes, there are 3 classrooms with windows. However, you can't book them in advance, but I can indicate this as a request when booking and we will then try to accommodate the class there. But I can't promise it. It depends on the exact dates of the trip and how many classrooms are available. ”
Nicole, Administration from San Sebastián Escuela Internacionall - Feb 17, 2025
Will the lessons be made up from a public holiday or will lessons be canceled without replacement?
“Yes, exactly. Whenever there's a public holiday in the week, we extend the other teaching days by half an hour.
That means they normally have lessons from 9:30-11:00 and 11:30-13:00. This week it would be from 9.30-11.15 and 11.30-13.15.”
Nicole Cortes, Student care manager from San Sebastian Escuela Internacional - Feb 06, 2025
If I choose shared appartment accommodation, am I guaranteed to be placed in a flat with other international students?
“No, shared flat accommodation means you live either with international students or with a local resident. The big difference with a host family is that you provide your own meals and may use the kitchen. If your preference is to live with international students, please indicate this in the comments during booking, so we can try to make this happen.”
Maria, Administration from Lacunza - Sep 13, 2023
Is Lacunza's intensive 30 senior course only with students aged 50+?
“The Intensive 30 senior course is a combination of group classes mixed with other same level international students of all ages/nationalities AND mini group classes for students more than 50 years old with a programme focused on culture and gastronomy. You can take how many weeks you want.”
Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.Net - Aug 16, 2023
I am interested in booking a 12-weeks course including accommodation in a one-bedroom apartment or a studio. Do you offer accommodation with a private bathroom?
“We offer the students residence (with private bed- and bathroom) but there is no kitchen available. Based on preferred dates, we can send you more information about the options available. Please let us know what your desired dates are and we will be happy to assist you!”

FAQ about Lacunza Escuela Internacional, San Sebastian

Is San Sebastián Escuela Internacional the school also known as Lacunza?
“Yes, that is correct!”
Robin Rebecca Pietersma, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Aug 18, 2023
What do the junior students do with the hosts in the evenings?
“First, they have dinner together. We encourage students to talk to the host family and tell them their preferences about food and also activities. Sometimes they go for a walk along the sea or city, sometimes they go for ice cream, sometimes they watch a movie or play games. Sometimes they study together. Please note that most of our host families work during the day and therefore have to take care of the household in the evening as well. After dinner there is no planned programme, it depends on the family and also on the student.”
Maria, from San Sebastián Escuela Internacional - Feb 18, 2022
What will the junior students do with the hosts on Sundays?
“The student should adapt to the plans of the family. They could have a trip to the beach, the mountains or to other villages/cities. Some host families take the students to France (just 30 minutes from San Sebastián). ”
Maria, from San Sebastián Escuela Internacional - Feb 18, 2022
When do we get the accommodation confirmation?
“At least 10 days before arrival we send the host family details with address, email, and phone number. All students must contact the family before arrival with their arrival time. They can book a transfer service from the airport or directly go to the host family.”
Maria, from San Sebastián Escuela Internacional - Feb 18, 2022
How much extra money should I bring for a 1-week Junior Summer Course?
“Everything is included in the programme, but we recommend the students to bring no more than 70€ - 80€ per week for snacks, souvenirs, or shopping.”
Maria, from San Sebastián Escuela Internacional - Feb 18, 2022
How much do the excursions for Junior students cost?
“Excursions on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons, as well as the Saturday excursion, are included in the programme.
If students do trips to museums/cinemas/restaurants or similar with the host family, they should pay on their own, unless the host family says otherwise.”
Maria, from San Sebastián Escuela Internacional - Feb 18, 2022
