Location: Linguaschools Barcelona is located in the majestic Catalan city of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Housed in the heart of the city centre, to the right of the Eixample neighbourhood and within a 5-minute walk of Plaza Catalunya, the school is close to shops, restaurants, supermarkets, eateries, links to public transport, the beach, and many of the city's attractions. Attractions and sites of interest within walking distance of the school include Barceloneta beach, Las Ramblas, Passeig de Gracia, the Arc de Triomf, Ciutadella Parc and several of architect Antoni Gaudi's buildings, such as Casa Milá, Casa Batlló and La Sagrada Familia.
Course selection: In addition to General Spanish courses available to students of all levels and taught over various schedules and intensities, the school also provides courses in Exam Preparation (DELE, SIELE), University pathways, and private tuition.
Social and cultural: Barcelona is a unique city of art, history, culture and beach-side attractions.
Getting around: The school is well situated, within walking distance of metro, train and bus networks. The closest metro station to the school is Passeig de Gràcia which is within a 450m walk of the school's front doors. There are several bus stops and routes close to the school. The city centre is well travelled and experienced on foot, metro, taxi or bus. Scooter and bicycle rentals are also readily available near the school.

“The location of the school was good.”
“Very impersonal. We were only informed about activities in the second week. The classrooms were also placed next to each other, even though there were enough free rooms. It was very noisy, and you could hear what was being said in the other classes. We will definitely book another Spanish course, but not at this school. The lessons focused heavily on grammar and the teachers seemed rather unmotivated...”

“Everyone was extremely friendly and well organized. Every group has two teachers that change from time to time so that students benefit from a variety of teaching styles. I also liked that the school conducts very extensive level tests after the completion of one language level so that students know if they are ready to proceed to the next level or not. The school is beautifully located in L’Eixample and surrounded by cafes and restaurants.
The weekly activities (around 3 each week) were fun and well chosen, but sometimes cancelled due to low attendance.”

“Not a weakness, but just an idea: Instead of having a welcome sangria every Monday after class (which is only attended by very few students, sadly), there could be a game with all students in the beginning of the lessons, so that it’s possible to get to know students from different levels and classes.”

“Small class at the curso de conversación. Different levels were put together. Low level student gave up after one session. Teacher Ana-Marie was very good and addressed the main mistakes.”
“Reception staff were polite, but gave contradictory or even incorrect information. The Barceloneta classroom was reverberant as there were no materials to absorb the room sound. Results of the required online written tests were only given out on request and only the answers were cryptic. The questions were missing and therefore errors were not comprehensible. An alleged oral test for categorisation did not take place.”

“Easy to book, quick replies to e-mails before starting the course, easy to complete the online pre-course level test and the oral tests for all of the students were done on the first morning quickly enough that none of us lost any teaching time on the first day, good quality of teaching, friendly teachers and administration staff, textbooks provided free of charge and you can keep these when you leave, nice terrace at the front of the school and nice rooftop terraces, good WiFi, snacks and drinks available to purchase at reception, plenty of places to get food and drink nearby, central location, during the winter (I went in January) organized social / cultural activities offered on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings (which I think is relatively good for a winter programme), classes had a good range of students of different ages and nationalities”

Personally, it was damn hard for me to understand the teachers due to the masks and some of them spoke too quickly to me, even if we pointed this out to them several times. Some students, including myself, were put in a class with other students who had much more knowledge or who had already completed more weeks of language school.”

I felt it was a bit far from the city centre, however (it was near Joanic metro station), but had I rented a bike it wouldn't have felt as far. "Friendly host and the breakfast he made was good but I was disappointed that I was not allowed to use the kitchen to cook supper for myself - I did not realize that I needed to specifically ask for a host that allows this as in the past with Homestays in other cities I have done this was always allowed. I will know this for future Homestays. The host did offer to let me use the washing machine.

"Nurea cooked amazing meals and was very attentive. The room was small and comfortable. There was a cabinet for my clothes and 2 drawers in the shower. I was there during the summer so it was hot and uncomfortable without a fan or A/C. The balcony was outside my door and the garbage smell was strong. I was instructed to use the water very sparingly and turn off the shower while I use the soap. The location is not in the best neighbourhood and a bit far from the school and the major sites. Nurea was kind to do my laundry for me the day before I left. I spent 4 nights at her home.

"The school only outsources to commercial housing companies.
The location and basic facilities are reasonable for the price.
Throughout my course, however, I had a rather negative experience in terms of living together (you shouldn't have false expectations here, as it was very much a case of living past each other without any real consideration for the flatmates in terms of tidiness, cleanliness, noise, etc.). In addition, my room had several defects (air conditioning did not work, door was a glass door that was semi-transparent). On explicit request (complaint was passed on by the school) at least the door was repaired. In return, however, the rental company insisted on a late check-in fee, which could certainly have been waived as a gesture of goodwill. Conclusion: the basic facilities (possibility of a single room with your own bed) and location of the flats is a definite plus point in favour of this option, but living together is just as (...anonnym practical?) in a hostel shared room. At the end of the day, it's still the commercial letting companies that want to make a profit.

"The rules of the flat share principle are great, but they only work if everyone sticks to them. Unfortunately, this was absolutely not the case in our situation, and no one checked to make sure.

"Unfortunately, the bathroom smelled bad from the drain. The flat was in a very old building (very noisy!) in the Gothic Quarter in a great location. Although none of the other flats were rented out, we could hear the people in the flat next door and those above and below us. Unfortunately, we had the misfortune that someone had left without disposing of the rubbish, washing up or emptying the fridge. There were no rubbish bags, so we bought some so we could take out the rubbish.

I am looking for a way to get my language level officially recognised. Now of course there is DELE, but my institution also gave two other options:

“Linguaschools offers weekly activities and weekend excursions, all year round. Activities vary per week and are communicated to you at the school. Some activities are free of charge. The Intensive courses take place in groups of a maximum of 10 students, with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and nationalities. These small groups will ultimately have you speaking more Spanish, as you will feel encouraged and more comfortable participating verbally with your teacher and your colleagues.
