Location: Griffith Institute of Language in Cork is just outside of the city centre in Montenotte, a historically affluent neighbourhood of the city of Cork, where many of the older mansions have now been converted into institutional buildings. Despite being somewhat separate from the city, the school is within easy walking distance to Cork's main shopping area, St. Patrick’s Street and The English Market. The city of Cork was founded in the sixth century, though there are not many medieval buildings still standing in the city. The Red Abbey Tower does remain and is one of the most historically significant monuments in the city; it takes approximately 25 minutes to walk there from the school. Other attractions in the surrounding area include Blarney Castle and Gardens, Mallow Castle, and Blackrock Castle Observatory.
The Institute: Griffith Institute of Language is part of Griffith College, one of Ireland’s largest private higher education institutions. Their campus in Cork, Ireland’s second largest city, is large with beautifully maintained buildings of brick and stone, and green lawns. They provide General English classes in addition to their programmes aimed at international students wishing to pursue their studies in English such as their Gap Year / Semester Abroad programme and their International Foundation Studies certificate programme.
Getting there: From Griffith Institute of Language it’s a thirteen minute walk to Cork’s Kent Railway Station. Cork Airport (ORK) is about 22 minutes away by car and travel time via public transport is just over half an hour.
