Location: VICTORIA - Academy of Languages Berlin is located in the historic and cosmopolitan German city of Berlin. A vibrant and artistic city, Berlin is staggered with history, artefacts, gardens and monuments, ensuring a unique time for students and travellers alike. The school is housed in the inner city of Berlin, within walking distance of links to public transport, shops, supermarkets, green spaces and several attractions.
Getting around: The school is well located and connected to public transport networks, within a 5-minute walk of the Anhalter train station and just a 290m walk from the U Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Park bus and subway stops.
Course selection: VICTORIA - Academy of Languages Berlin offers a range of courses suitable for students of various needs and interests. Combination programmes of German Theory (grammar, book-based) and Practical German (communication, speaking) are available independently or in conjunction with one another. Exam Preparation programmes for TestDAF and telc C1 exams are also available. Private tuition is available along with another programme or independently.
This school is an exam centre for the TestDaF and telc exams.
Social and cultural: Berlin is abundant with cultural sites and places to gather socially. The city is well-known amongst food lovers, and artists alike, for its forward-thinking and innovation. Quality of teaching / language progress: Tareq is an excellent teacher. It was worth going through hell in the accommodation just for Tareq's classes. Bring pills to sleep if you stay on campus. Let them know if you don't like the accommodation and ask for a change or book an airbnb. Classes are excellent. I think there is not a better teacher in Berlin. He teaches A2 German. There were no activities due to covid. They should rebuild the school but perform 3 exorcisms at least first.

Quality of teaching / language progress: I really liked the school overall, although the lessons could be a little cheaper. However, it is definitely worth it! My teacher Olga was absolutely lovely. Although I had other teachers occasionally, Olga was by far the best! I heard some other students that didn't quite like their teachers but I have 0 complaints. She was very dynamic and would do all types of different and fun exercises. I evolved a lot and had so much fun learning!
Other comments: Overall, I think its a good school but not the best. For the money, location and easy accommodation (since it's very difficult to find a place to live in Berlin and expensive at the moment), it was good!

The school facilities are good, the teachers too, all lessons are in German. In the morning class I was the only one who spoke Russian, which was a great language practice for me.

"The accommodation was not terrible but not incredible either. For the price, a shared bedroom and its overall conditions is definitely overpriced. The fridges were dirty and I think they should be cleaned by the cleaners once in a while (they would clean everything except the fridges). The bed sheets were not impeccable although that is something to expect from a dormitory. The furniture was used but in good conditions. The main issues were the broken things like the showers and washing/drying machines that they would take a long time do repair on/replace. There were 2 bathrooms and we would have to use the one on the 5th floor because the other one was broken. They only fixed it when the one on the 5th broke as well, so for 3 days everyone had to shower at the boys bathroom where only half of the showers had hot water! The bathroom on the 4th floor was broken for at least 1 month. They had plenty of time to fix it. Other than that, the room was good, the view was awesome and the location perfect! I would recommend it if you need to save some money and want a good location in Berlin.

"The building at Bernburgerstraße is disgusting. A messy dining room with refrigerators full of moldy expired food, shabby kitchen, a dirty shower room. Photos from the web-site do not coincide at all with what I saw. If I had known that it was such a horror, I would never have chosen this building. The administration doesn't care, I went to almost every one and tried to change something, but it was useless.

"Having to use a communal kitchen,
I thought it would be inconvenient to have to use a shared kitchen, but it was great to get to know my friends and share information in that space.
Also, when it was hot, the basement was cool, so it was nice to drink tea, read, or study. The room I was assigned had a leak in the bathroom, so I had to move to the next room, but I think this should have been checked in advance. Finally, I found out later that I couldn't stay on the weekend night of my arrival, so I had to change my flight and pay 700 euros more for a round-trip taxi from Munich for one night. I guess it's a learning experience, but it's something that could have been coordinated in advance.

"The accomodation was extremely dissapointing. Upon my first sleep, i woke up with bites over my body. I though it was moskito bites at first, but soon spoted bed bugs and informed the school. They sent me back to the room with a leafleft and the promise that someone will come the following day to deal with it. I assumed a professional exterminator would have been called, but that wasn't the case. The biting continued after their janitator treated the bedroom and since the school did not offer alternatives, i had to vacate the room and find alternative accomodation elsewhere. Also, the room was filthy, extremely hot and the internet did never work. Overeall i would not recommend the accomodation, however some of my friends did have a positive experience here. In the end I was given a full refund for the accommodation, although it did hardly cover the extra costs I incurred.

“You can buy the practice course extra in the afternoon If you want to have more hours. However, it is not possible to change the whole product after the course started.

“We do not have a maximum duration. The student can extend for as many weeks as he needs.”

If I don't get the visa on time, can I reschedule the course for free?
“Should the visa be delayed, the student will not incur any further costs from us. This means that should he receive his visa after the start date stated in the invitation letter, he can postpone the language course without further costs.

Do I have to pay a cancellation fee if I don't get the visa?
“Should the visa not be issued, the refund transfer of payment, less costs incurred, such as postage and bank charges, as well as an administration fee of EUR 200 is guaranteed by us. The rejection must be documented in the form of an official confirmation and the presentation of the original invitation letter.”

I would like to know which textbooks are used in the classes at A1 and B2 level.
“With books, it really depends on the level. For this reason I would advise the student to buy them here, having already checked into their course and being satisfied with the level. Students can buy the books at any time at school, online or in bookstores.

I am interested in having German courses. How much time do I need to complete a level for example? How much time does it take to complete 2 books (A1-1 and A1.2)?
“You can consider the Theory course with 20 or 30 lessons per week. Focus is on theoretical teaching. No practice units are included in the morning, it's highly recommended to attend the application-oriented practical course in the afternoon. It takes approximately 8-9 weeks to complete one level. There are 6 levels in the language: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2. It might take up to 16 weeks to complete two levels.”
