What we dislike about the school
- An older average age per class than in other schools in the same city.
Location: Royal Turkish Education Center is located in the culturally rich Turkish city of Istanbul. Housed a short distance from the city centre, the school has several shops, eateries, restaurants and cafés close by. Within a moment's walk of the popular Taksim Gezi Park, and a 10-minute train journey from such unique attractions as the Galata Tower and many of the city's art galleries, the school is well placed to assist students in creating memorable moments, whilst achieving their language goals. The unique Hagia Sophia is within a 30-minute train ride of the school, the Taksim rail and subway stations are only a 3-minute walk from the school's front doors.
Course selection: Course selection offers something for students of all levels. General Turkish programmes are available via group lessons or privately, over a variety of schedules and intensities.
School facilities: The school's facilities help create a warm and inviting atmosphere for all. These facilities include a kitchen for student use, a library, free water, free WIFI and free parking. All classrooms are equipped with air conditioning, heating and ample natural light to create an optimal learning environment.
Accommodation: The school is happy to assist with accommodation and airport transfers upon request.
School chain: Royal Turkish Education Center is part of a small group of schools that teach Turkish for business and personal purposes, throughout Turkey. With locations in Istanbul and Izmir, students have fully immersive Turkish programmes available all year round, Turkish being the language spoken during all lesson time. All lessons are taught in friendly and motivating learning environments, with students learning and enjoyment the primary focus throughout.

"The most important thing is that if you want to learn a language, you need more than 4 times 45 minutes a day. This should be extended, even if it is more expensive. But it should be longer than 4 hours in one course. But if you want to have fun, see Istanbul and make friends, sure that's different, then it's all good. "

The teacher starts repeating the rules for students who joined later, as if making privileges for latecomers. It was illogical. I had to sit and be bored while the teacher repeated the already learnt material material to the new student. And I was wasting time while I could have mastered more."

Special note for 2027 holiday season: If you plan to take a course during the high season months of April, June, July or August 2027 we urgently advise you to book as early as possible. In 2026 many schools were fully booked during the holidays and the situation is unlikely to be different for 2027 due to a current shortage of teachers, which affects most schools.

“Classes always start on time and that is how they end. All class hours are used liberally enough to let you learn the Turkish language, with playful alternations so it doesn't get boring. Seyma my teacher is a rock. I recommend everyone to go here to Istanbul.”
“The classes were scheduled in the mornings. Due to which I had planned other activities in Istanbul in the afternoons. Two days before departure I got a change in the schedule which made me cancel my other activities. The date and time had been requested well in advance.”

“What wasn't quite right was the teaching material. However, I don't know if the school can change that. The courses are structured according to the international standard A1-C2. That's very good. But the teaching material corresponds to what children learn. The school only teaches adults. This includes many who travel in Turkey. Classroom equipment and the flags of individual countries aren't required. I would have liked a few more examples for adults.
The school didn't offer any excursions, at least I didn't notice any. But that's okay.
It would be a great service if the school could provide maps of Istanbul. The tourist information office was closed during the four weeks. Google Maps often doesn't work. However, there are free city maps. I got one. The other students, however, were out of luck.”

“The lessons were professional and extremely fun and enjoyable. I have already reached a B1/B2 level and was able to build on this thanks to my lovely teacher Şeyma. We quickly decided that I should learn everyday Turkish and not work with textbooks at all, but spend the whole morning having conversations. This is challenging for both the teacher and the student. Şeyma found just the right amount of challenge and support - but after 2 weeks I was really exhausted. Aysel (hanim), who provides the students with tea and coffee during the numerous breaks and always has a friendly word for everyone at every language level, is also very kind.”

Quality of teaching / language progress: The most important thing is that if you want to learn a language, you need more than 4 times 45 minutes a day. This should be extended, even if it is more expensive. But it should be longer than 4 hours in one course. But if you want to have fun, see Istanbul and make friends, sure that's different, then it's all good.

All Turkish language courses at Royal Turkish Schools are taught by qualified native teachers and follow our communicative method focusing on speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students can start any Monday, and all levels from A1 to C1 are available year-round. Each class has a maximum of 8 students for personalized attention. Certificates are provided at the end of each level.- Individual classes
- Single individual lessons of tuition can be reserved at 50 €. The combination of group and individual lessons is highly recommended. Individual lessons will encourage you to actively speak the foreign language and will offer you the opportunity to discuss individual problems and weaknesses.

"The school also organized this perfectly. Hale is an extremely cultured lady. We got along very well. Hale prepared a very varied and diverse breakfast. You can also book additional meals at short notice if needed. She cooks very well, with a variety of options and fresh food.
The storage at the accommodation in Beskitas is worth its weight in gold. You don't have to change buses. The bus stops two minutes from the accommodation, and you get off at Taksim Square. Perfect.

I had my own bedroom and living room with a bathroom and could retreat here at any time or plan my day independently of the family. "The host family is very nice. Mum Ayşe had to work 6 days a week and on the 7th day she didn't rest, but cleaned her flat and did laundry - including mine. The neighbourhood - Kağithane - seems to have never heard of tourism; it is just as originally Turkish as I had imagined. The family is really nice and uncomplicated and I had dinner with Ayşe every evening and we chatted for an hour over tea afterwards.

“An exam is done after completing a level, starting from A1. If you complete this exam successfully we issue a certificate for you based on this level. Usually this certificate is accepted by most of international institutions.
We are approved by the Ministry of Education of Turkey and are eligible to have our students sit an official exam. However, there are some rules set by the government to take an exam: students must have a Turkish ID or residence permit ID.
