Positive aspects of school
"The teachers were all very friendly and helpful."
Negative aspects
"The facilities stink of sewer smell, one of the two toilets was always out of service and the one that was working was dirty with papers overflowing from the trash can. We were promised that we would be placed in an appropriate level based on our skill determined by our tests. This was not true for the first class of each day. We had to find a place to do our own study with a teacher running back and forth between teaching us and teaching a higher level class. There were no morning classes because there were no teachers available for us. Every student we met there complained that the course material was not suitable. I would not recommend this school to anyone."

Positive aspects of school
"The location is great. There are shopping facilities nearby for the lunch break. The teachers are very nice and committed."
Negative aspects
"The school's equipment is modest. The rooms are in need of renovation, the desks are cheap and unstable. The coffee machine can only be operated with a card, which is annoying. The toilets are moderately clean. The teaching material is only available online, which is a disaster without a tablet or laptop. I only had the mobile phone, which was very exhausting. No papers/copies were provided."

"Use museums if the weather is bad, they are nicer than in Germany, absolute recommendation! Go to the parks, read a book, walk along the promenade."

Other comments
"The equipment is rather poor, the rooms are in need of renovation. There was no copy paper at all, everything via teams: be sure to bring your laptop/tablet, with a mobile phone it was a disaster."
City/place
"Public transport great, not expensive, beautiful city with many historical sights, many old buildings. The restaurants are expensive, like everywhere else in France... I would go there again, it's worth it!"
Quality of teaching / language progress
"Course basically ok, easier in the mornings, change of group in the afternoons, level a bit high."
Accommodation
"The elderly couple lives in a suburb of Bordeaux, practically without infrastructure. The public transport connection is good. Everything is easy to reach by tram. The couple is very nice, but real contact is not wanted. I was not allowed to go into the kitchen or the living room alone. It was more like a room with meals, but no connection to a host family. Dinner was at 8pm sharp, being in the dining room 10 mins earlier not wanted. The room was small, not lockable and no TV. I felt very controlled and locked in, so after 2 nights I changed to a hotel. Unfortunately, this was very expensive due to the Rugby World Cup and the visit of King Charles. I imagine a host family differently, I have also experienced it more positively with others in the past. Of course it depends on what you have in mind, I wish there was more information beforehand, then I could have made a different decision beforehand. For me personally, it didn't fit."

"I was there for 12 weeks and felt comfortable, supported and enjoyed the classes."
City/place
"Beautiful, elegant and charming city. Felt very safe and enjoyed exploring the city and nearby beaches. Would be nice to have the option to get the bus to Arcachon. Bordeaux is a great place to visit. However, it could do with more visible and thorough acknowledgement of the part it, and its citizens, took in the horrific kidnapping, raping, torture, murder and exploitation of the people it enslaved in Africa and Haiti. Questions were asked in our class about why monuments to people involved in the slave trade continue to stand."

Positive aspects of school
"The school does not offer weekend activities and only 1 or 2 activities during the week. But since I signed up for a French + culture, wine and gastronomy course, every afternoon we had an activity that was normally very interesting and very well organized."
Negative aspects
"Weekly classes are two 90-minute shifts separated by a 15-minute break. The first day was completely lost, which doesn't matter much for people who go for several weeks, but I only booked one. The first turn was lost with a small oral test that is not very useful and the second turn with the 1 to 1 presentation of all the students in the class.
In the information it says that the maximum number of students per class is 12, but in ours there have been 13 and, one day, 14. The teacher was good, but with so many students, the pace of learning is slower."
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
"There is a great diversity of countries and languages, although in the month of August Spanish predominate."
Details of the review
Other comments
"It should be better organized so as not to miss the first day of class (20% of class time for those who only attend one week). The maximum group of 12 people should be respected."
City/place
"Bordeaux is a very beautiful and very lively city. It has a huge number of terraces to have a drink and the people are generally friendly."
Quality of teaching / language progress
"A recommended course for the afternoon activities that are interesting (visit to St Emilion with Bordeaux wine tasting, tour of the city tasting typical products...) The school provides tickets, information, accompanies the sites agreed with the guides... Our group was 7 people and by doing all the afternoon activities together, a good group relationship was generated."

"Overall a very good choice for learning French. The staff and professors are all very good and the progression was very good in a short time."
Negative aspects
"I prefer courses at school compared to all the online classes. Though the good thing with online classes is that you get input from other professors and students from other locations as well. Even more important to make sure to communicate to the students that they will be needing a laptop or a tablet as several of the others didn’t know in advance. Would like to have even more cultural events."

"When buying a course for one week, keep in mind that every week you lose 2 hours. This is justified only in the first week, when you are being interviewed. If your course is longer than a week, then you don’t have classes every Monday when new students pass the tests. This is not significant, but not really clear to me:-) They give very little home work, which is unusual for us."

"Eat lunch at the school in the garden to get to know your fellow students and keep talking in French. You improve your language , make better friendships and save money. If you can afford it book a one on one session, it really helps. Expect to feel really tired at first. It is a strain trying to converse without resorting to your native language but it pays off. Everyone will seem better than you but it doesn’t matter because everyone is there to learn and you help each other."
