Accommodation
"It is a modern student residence. My room was very small, but it had everything I needed. Pots and dishes are provided, but you have to bring your own cleaning supplies. It is located in a quiet part of Venice, where mainly locals live, but you can be back in the centre of the action in just a few minutes. I highly recommend this residence and will definitely come back again."

Positive aspects of school
"The material was very well organised and was taught by the lecturer, Roberta, in a structured and understandable way. Even as an absolute beginner, I was able to follow the lessons. The worksheets provided (with pictures) helped me to understand the context. Standardised sentences are not taught, but the language is taught from scratch (grammar). I was able to consolidate what I had previously learnt through the homework. I would be happy to attend further courses at a later date."
Negative aspects
"I didn't notice anything there."

City/place
"A wonderful city. On the way to school in the morning, there were almost only locals on the streets. I felt safe at all times (even at night). Friday, Saturday and Sunday are the worst days... the city is flooded with tourists."
Accommodation
"Mrs Elsa is a very kind elderly lady. She made a lot of effort to communicate with me in Italian. I thought it was great that she took the time to practise Italian phrases with me. The room is in her flat in San. Polo. The school is a 15-minute walk away."

Positive aspects of school
"The welcome and the whole atmosphere are wonderfully friendly, polite, appreciative and relaxed. The teachers are committed and approachable. The alternation of teaching methods is well thought out. The group size is excellent!"
Negative aspects
"The lessons are a bit short and could have been a good 30 to 45 minutes longer. Some of the additional activities were very interesting, but could have focussed more on culture and history."

"A crumbling dream, past and yet still visible greatness, a struggle against the decay that is setting in everywhere, a lively, contradictory city with a morbid flair, omnipresent art, marvellous palazzi... the masses of tourists and their sometimes unbelievably bad behaviour must be a nightmare for the Venetians."
Quality of teaching / language progress
"The course was just right for me, level A2, very good teacher and great assistant! Good group size and varied content. Well organised!!!"
Accommodation
"It's nice to be able to walk through Venice a few times a day. The location is both a strength and a weakness: a weakness because it is far away from practically everything and a strength because it is wonderfully quiet. The presence of the extremely friendly nuns radiates calm and gives you a feeling of security, also because they always know whether you have already come ‘home’. The room has everything you need, but is still a little sparse."

Positive aspects of school
"I particularly liked the mix between the motivation to talk a lot and the intensity of the grammar teaching. Giulia was a fantastic teacher who showed us that you don't need a dictionary to speak Italian and solve problems. I also found the ‘gite guidate’ through Venezia's history and specialities with Alessandro very enriching. The location of the school is also good, easy to reach and the number of participants was also ideal."
Negative aspects
"I think that the assessment of the level you have is too quick. I think I could have chosen level 4. In hindsight, the B1 level course gave me more confidence. It would have been good to know that you can get a Vaoretto card at the student rate, which is valid for one month. I didn't realise this and bought a card for 65 euros just for one week. I could have saved myself these costs if I had known about this card or had received the letter from the institute before travelling. One more thing: the morning lessons should have lasted until 1pm. As an adult, half an hour in the morning is enough patience."

"I really like Venice because there is always something new to discover. A city whose history and the present are always interesting."
Quality of teaching / language progress
"Teachers good, competent, friendly, courteous. Responded to students. What I would like to see in future is that in the private lessons, which I took separately, the questions are dealt with even if they correspond to a higher level. The indication that the questions are from a higher level is not relevant for me in private lessons. Because I personally want to progress."

Negative aspects
"My rating was too low and I had difficulty changing levels. I was underchallenged, but didn't put up much of a fight. The students' pronunciation skills were very poor, as were their fluency skills, which were never corrected or addressed. It was very exhausting for me to listen. I almost only enjoyed listening to the teacher. I booked the course because I wanted to learn to speak more. I had a year of Duolingo self-study before that. But I was able to speak much better."

"It should be clear to everyone that a big city like Venice is not comparable in price to a small Bavarian town. However, if you don't necessarily stay in the tourist corners, you can still eat cheaply and, above all, well. The Aperol Spritz costs from €3.50 upwards....... Venice is worth a visit!"

Accommodation
"It is a mixture of monastery, old age/residential home with clearly defined times and rules, and accommodation for guests. A wonderful atmosphere of peace and contemplation. However, it is probably not suitable for everyone. When you come out of the hustle and bustle of Venice into the adjoining garden, it invites you to let your mind wander a little more .... All in all, I can recommend it without reservation."

"The cultural offerings in Venice are overwhelming. I can recommend a concert evening in San Vidal or a choir concert in Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. The churches are full of art treasures. This year the various Tintoretto exhibitions were a must. I can only recommend a visit to the opera in La Venice to everyone. All course participants had a lot of discovery fun on long walks through the various sestiere. I was also enthusiastic about my island tour to Murano, Burano and especially Torcello. A very special experience was San Michele the cemetery island. I could recommend a lot more - but the wonderful city on the lagoon has so much beauty and lovely picturesque corners in store that everyone is cast under its spell in their own way!"

"I would have loved a bit more structured approach to the grammar part. After first week I was confused and went to buy a grammar book to clear some things up. And the beginning seemed a bit slow - first three days we repeated pretty much the same stuff. And I don't mind a bit more homework. About social activities - I didn't participate cause our coursemates went to the first one and afterwards told that it was all in Italian so it held me back from future events cause there is no point for me if I don't understand anything. Maybe next year! :)"
