"The lady who put me up was rather "clumsy" when I arrived. She said that my things were dirty and that I shouldn't put them on the bed (my clothes were clean, washed the day before), when in fact it was the floor of the room that was questionable. The bedroom wardrobe was full and I couldn't put my clothes in there. I had a rack to hang my clothes on, but it wasn't big enough to hang all my clothes on. There was no table in the room to study or work with my PC, and no internet either.
Another point: I wasn't told that there was a dog in the flat. I think it was an amstaff or a similar breed.
For the first few days, he would growl at me and bark when I went into the flat or to the bathroom. The landlady simply suggested that I shouldn't look him in the eye and that I should 'submit'. It's out of the question for a dog to dominate me, especially as I know how to handle dogs. I made slow but dominating gestures towards the dog. As I wasn't scared, the dog started to want to play with me after a few days.
The dog drank the water that ran from the shower, so we had to leave a trickle of water running (as requested by the landlady)... sharing the shower with the landlady wasn't easy, sometimes our schedules clashed and I'd leave without taking a shower... other worries, we couldn't close the bathroom from the inside, but on top of that taking my shower with the dog's drool bothered me...
I preferred not to make friends with the landlady because of all these things, especially as I'm a rather solitary person.
Towards the end, she tried to make a connection by talking to me and she sort of apologised for not being available (I didn't mind her not being available, given the initial contact). I think she was clumsy and I was stubborn.
I'm not a young person, which is why I managed to enjoy the stay in spite of everything. I don't think it's suitable for students."
