Location: For a perfect way to enjoy the coastlines and culture of the French Riviera, opt for a language course with Azurlingua - situated neatly in the heart of Nice. The school can be found midway between the Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas de Nice and Basilique Notre-Dame de l’Assomption, and is very central in the Quartier des Musiciens neighbourhood.

Public Transportation: Just up the road from the school is the Nice-Ville train station, whose line follows the Mediterranean coast line. The Alsace-Lorrain tram station, Line two, is a 7-minute walk from Azurlingua and connects to various popular attractions in Nice. The prime location of the school means that the majority of features of the city are within walking distance, and there is plenty of activity in the surrounding streets.

Course selection: Azurlingua caters to adults, teenagers and scholar groups throughout the year and each course is distinctly designed to meet every student's level in the French language, as well as their age. All packages offer social programmes, extracurricular activities, and a large selection of accommodation to suit your specific needs.

Teaching style: Azurlingua takes an extra step in ensuring that programmes are adaptable: crafted in a tailor-made fashion that applies to each group. At the school, you can expect to touch base with content that was constructed within the Common European Framework for Languages and vows to teach the French language efficiently, whilst developing your skills in speaking as well as writing. With Azurlingua, students gain expert-taught knowledge in French that enables you to effectively use the language in real-life situations.

Additional information: Upon completion of your course, you’ll be awarded a certificate recognised by the Council of Europe (ECTS).

Azurlingua takes pride in providing excellent French language tuition to their students on their Standard course, regardless of whether they are beginners or advanced learners. Some of the characteristics that you can expect from the Standard course include the combination of formal elements such as grammar with less traditional methods such as the use of scenarios, debates, and so on.

Conversation and writing production will also be covered extensively, to ensure participants develop a high language of active language production in French. With an average of just 9 students in every class, you will find yourself in a classroom environment where speaking and participating actively is easy - and you will develop a close working relationship with your teacher, who will have the opportunity to learn your particular strengths and weaknesses.

"Too large groups. 12-14 students are too many. Doesn't give enough space for each one to practise the language. Several younger pupils who were not interested in learning anything and disrupted the lessons. "

Join the Azurlingua team for one, or more, of their 50+ sessions. There are four per year: Carnaval de Nice (in February); Spring (May); Late Summer (September); Winter (December). Each session lasts two weeks but you can also attend for just one if you prefer.

The program includes: 20 French lessons per week, a wine and cheese tasting each week, a French cooking workshop and two half-day excursions to discover the French Riviera.

Generally, French classes for the 50+ program are for elementary or intermediate level learners, as this is where there is most demand.

“Teaching by Nicolas was great. Really enjoyed it. Location of school great. If I go back I would want to be in his class!”
“It was not an over 50s course. There were only 4 people over 50 and they were in a lower class than me. There was also one older couple in the class but the rest were very young and whilst I enjoyed the young people it is misrepresenting the situation by offering over 50s courses. Also there was only one activity in the evening-- a play which I really enjoyed. I went however and did lots of activities myself outside the school.”

“Friendly teachers”
“Uneven quality of the teachers, one of my teachers had the same approach to his lessons every day, reading aloud and then questions on the text, which became boring in the long run and was not very stimulating.”

Quality of teaching / language progress: Too large groups. 12-14 students are too many. Doesn't give enough space for each one to practise the language. Several younger pupils who were not interested in learning anything and disrupted the lessons.

“My teacher was very good, and the course format and materials were good too. People in class were at about the same level overall.”
“First day language evaluation was long and disorganized, and we did not have class at all the first day. Losing a day when you're there only 2 weeks seems problematic. I haven't seen this before. Also, classes were in afternoon the first week, rather than morning, which was a surprise. Finally, there is a real preponderance of younger students in this school, including a lot of older teenagers who aren't always very motivated.”

Azurlingua Kids Camp at Eucalyptus
The welcome was very confusing
The residential room appeared dirty and the bed had hairs when I dropped my son. The washroom was dirty. Some of the boys saw the cleaning lady sleeping during the day. Some of the activities stated on the website were not carried out in reality. The administration was supposed to get back to me about a paid activity but nobody did and I had to follow up.”

“Nice people, but not putting people in the right level”
“So, let me provide some more detailed feedback here:
1) My kids were placed in the wrong class, most of all day they did not understand a word what was said and couldn’t answer any of the questions. Needless to say they didn’t learn much if anything. I am greatly disappointed by this as they tried to communicate that they only spoke English but were put down (teacher saying only French in French).
2) The reason the first day was perceived as a day long test was that they didn’t understand anything and hence concluded this was a test.
3) Other kids in their class were already speaking some French and could answer questions like “what is your favorite animal”, but not my kids.
4) This is extremely disappointing as I was at the school the Saturday before to talk to the main teacher / coordinator there to make sure they are on the list but also telling him they both don’t know any French and should be beginners. When they said they are in A1 class, we didn’t know there is a A0 class (that should have been the right one).
5) I would also recommend you communicate more with the caregiver (myself) as I could have helped you place my kids correctly.

Now, I can’t even go back as 1) you made the placement faulty and you even ignored when they tried to tell the teacher, 2) my kids are very opposed to another class as they perceived it as boring (they didn’t understand anything).

I usually wouldn’t do this, but this case warrant a refund as we didn’t get what was expected. Alternatively, I would like to ask for a few days in an A0 class to get them learn something.

I hope this will help as you shouldn’t disappoint students this way

michael”

“The initial assessment wasn't correct and I was put on the lower level than appropriate. Thankfully it became immediately apparent to both teachers in 'standard' and ' intensive' parts that it is a misplacement. I changed my level right the next day but it still costed me to spend one day not learning but paying.”

“The admin team was very efficient, especially when I needed to change to another host family.”
“The school has placed me into a class with a level so much lower than my actual level, and the teaching methods and lessons were not effective at all.

With the other language schools in France which I have attended, they have got better systems and more activities in class, more practices and the lessons were way more interactive and engaging.
The coverage of grammar was also far from being enough.”

“The teachers are very knowledgeable regarding grammar and how to teach it.”
“The rest are not so well organized. First of all, I made payments via bank transfer but staff did not contact me until after I asked about it. Secondly, the host family arrangement was complicated, I was given information on two different families at two different points. While the second family did not reply, the school did not contact me either. I eventually went to the first family, which worked out well on a personal level. Thirdly, there was only one after school activity on the first Friday afternoon (to Monaco), it was very well conducted. My second week there on Monday morning, a trip for Cannes was posted for the Friday but the posting was removed by Tuesday morning and changed to Villefrance-Sur-Mer, no one signed up for it. Maybe the advertisement was not done well?
The three classrooms I had been into were all very cluttered with too many desks and chairs. They are poorly arranged, and in room 8, the whiteboard and the computer monitor were at two different ends of the room, very difficult to maneuver in-between.
The eating area was also strangely put together. There was only one microwave on a wobbly table, which easily gets fluids spilled, and there was no kitchen facility.
The washroom constantly lacks paper towel.”

“Lessons were good and staff were nice for the most part. Great excursions/activities.”
“Poor organisation, animators often haphazard during excursions.

No possibility to do laundry in the building (there was a sign on the door to the laundry room saying "no students allowed"). I think there should be a possibility to hand in the dirty laundry and get it washed and ironed back, after all these are minors who should not be looking for a launderette in town.

Breakfast almost no choice (muesli, melon, expired yoghurts), lunch tasteless (missing spices, little choice). Fried sausage was partly raw.

Toilet cleaning not so great.”

"Unfortunately, the ladylady I stayed with became more and more fussy towards the end of the week, or rather was very out of tune several times. I was told several times a day about all sorts of things, such as that I should turn off the kettle halfway through. People regularly went into my room without my permission or while I was on the phone (and my door was closed). Not only was my privacy disturbed. I was even shouted at why I was using the ceiling light and not the bedside light. It would cost them less. Apart from the fact that I always bought my own breakfast, as the offer was very modest and limited to the minimum (milk, butter, packed bread, jam - I didn't complain, but simply covered my claim for fresh fruit myself), I don't understand why, at 240€ rent/week, I'm not even allowed to use the ceiling light for 30min and have to put up with such a rude manner on top of that. I let people tell me a lot of things and I also like to get along with different characters, but this was no longer okay.

"The hostess Isabelle B. offered an absolutely precious opportunity of conversation practice for me. Although she uses English every now and then, she is patient enough to wait for me to finish my sentences and sometimes corrects me (in French, of course). Her place is a little bit cluttered, therefore when I packed my luggage before leaving, I couldn't find a small rucksack of mine which I thought I had lost, but was later found by Isabelle after I had left.

Questions and answers about Azurlingua, ecole de langues

We are a group of friends interested in booking the Senior Programme. Is the programme offered by Azurlingua running year-round?
“The Senior Program offered by Azurlingua, the Club 50+, runs on fixed dates during the year. Let us know what your preferred dates are, and we can provide you with more information.”
Ana Carolina Dos Santos, LanguageCourse.Net - May 16, 2024
Where do the long-term students wash their clothing? Is there a washing machine in Campus central or nearby?
“There is a laundry service close to the school.
Eric, Responsable administratif from Azurlingua - Jan 18, 2024
I am travelling with my son who is 12 years old. Can I book an adult course and my child will join a junior course?
“It could be possible but the mother and the kid will not have the same timetable because the adult course finishes at different hours than the junior programme. She will have a course in the morning one day and the other day - in the afternoon.”
Sean Librati , Enrolment and Accommodation from Azurlingua - Jun 22, 2023
Can the school guarantee a C1 level group?
“At the Azurlingua, ecole de langues there are only groups up to B2 level, not higher, for the requested period. From C1 only private lessons are offered, because on the one hand there are few students to be able to form groups at the high level and on the other hand the language skills are so different that you benefit best from private lessons.”
Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.Net - Apr 12, 2023
I will come to Nice by car and now the question is where can I park the vehicle? Is there parking at my accommodation in the Campus Central school residence?
“All the parking around the school are pretty expensive and even on the street you will have to pay. You can use the parking at the train station.”
Florent, Inscription Team from Azurlingua - Dec 12, 2022
We would like to book a one-week junior course for our daughters in Nice in April. Airport transfer is included in the junior package. We would be able to drop the children off so would not need airport transfers. Can this be cancelled?
“The junior course has a package price. The fee can't be reduced but you don't have to get the transfer if you are not interested.
Angela Ligartova, LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 29, 2022
I would like to reserve a course and accommodation for 12 or 16 weeks. If I am unable to finish school, what are the cancellation fees and refunds? Can I also extend on site?
“Unfortunately, once the room and the course have been confirmed and you are on site, according to the school's terms and conditions there is no refund for an earlier return. The other option is to book 12 weeks first and then extend for another 4 weeks, but we cannot guarantee that you will then get a place in the student residence for September. The dormitory was fully booked this summer and autumn. If you are flexible about the accommodation, you are welcome to extend it on site.”
Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 24, 2022
Can I move into the hall of residence on the Thursday before the course starts?
“The student residence is rented on a weekly basis. You can move in a day earlier, i.e. on Saturday. If you want to move in several days earlier, then you have to book a whole extra week. We recommend that if you arrive in Nice earlier, you organize your own room before you can move into the residence.”
Florent, from Azurlingua - Nov 24, 2022
I would like to do a private course specialised in Medical French. Do I then have different teachers during the time?
“If everything it’s ok between the teacher and the student we are trying to keep the same teacher..”
Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.Net - Oct 25, 2022
Do the teachers also speak German or English?
“The teachers also speak English but focus on communicating in French during the lesson. Even from a simple level, French is spoken as much as possible and communication works surprisingly well. In this way you will learn as much as possible in a short time. If you get stuck, you can also ask in English.”
Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.Net - Oct 25, 2022
We are a family of 1 adult and 2 children interested in booking the Family Program. What does the price include?
“The price of the Family Program includes 20 lessons per week for 1 adult + 1 child. In your case, as you are travelling with 2 children, you have to pay an additional fee for the other student. Please let us know what your preferred dates are and we will send more information.”
Ana Carolina, LanguageCourse.net - Apr 04, 2022
I would like to book an Intensive Program with 30 lessons per week, and I'm also interested in any tennis lessons the school organizes. Is the Tennis Program available year-round?
“The French Programs are available year-round and you can start any Monday if you are not a complete beginner. As for the Tennis Program, I am afraid this option is available in the summer only. ”

FAQ about Azurlingua, ecole de langues, Nice

I attended this language school last year through your agency and was wondering if, as a former student, I could get an exemption from the registration fee for this year's edition?
“We are happy to confirm that if you have studied at the school within the past 12 months, you will not have to pay the registration fee again for this year. ”
Veronica Romualdi, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - May 12, 2025
What are the nearby public parking facilities near Azurlingua Nice?

“Regarding the car park, parking at or near the School Azurlingua in Nice may be challenging, as the school is located centrally, close to Place Masséna and within walking distance of the seafront and Old Nice. The immediate area does not seem to have dedicated parking for students. However, there are nearby public parking facilities in the city center where students may be able to park:

- Nice Azur Parking Corvésy: This parking facility offers the first hour free and is located relatively close to the school. It's convenient for short visits or errands.
- Promenade des Arts Parking: Also nearby, it offers free parking for the first hour, ideal for short stays.
- Acropolis Parking: Situated a bit farther, but well connected by tram, making it convenient if you're planning a longer visit to the area”
Madly Simba, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Sep 13, 2024
I would like to book private lessons for my 6 year old daughter in Nice. Can you arrange this?
“The school can't offer private lessons for student this young. The minimum required age is 12 years. ”
Sean Librati, from Azurlingua - Jul 19, 2024
If I sign up to six weeks to start, could I then change to shorter or longer if I felt the need?
“If you are not sure about the length I recommend you book a course for a few weeks first as it's not possible to cancel the remaining weeks once the course has started but you can always extend the course at the school or you can get in touch with us as we'll help you.
Angela Ligartova, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Oct 20, 2023
I'm looking for a junior course with homestay accommodation for my 15 year-old daughter. Do they travel alone from the host family to the school or are they accompanied by adults?
“Students travel alone to the school and back to the host family, however, as there are two students in the same room they can travel together. All host families live in safe areas and have experience in hosting students. Using public transport is easy as well. It might take up to 20-30 minutes to get to the school (walking distance) or a few minutes by public transport.

Angela Ligartova, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Aug 02, 2023
What time do classes start on the first day?

Azurlingua offers a course for 30 plus students. Is this available every Monday?
“The 30 plus courses are offered during the summer months (June, July, August). Students can start any Monday if they speak some French. The beginner starting dates are listed on the website. Students can register for the 30 plus course, however if the school won't receive enough bookings for the course they will be placed in a mixed age group. The average age is: 22 -28 years.
Angela Ligartova, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - May 15, 2023
I'm looking for a French course for my daughter and her friend (both 16 years old) in Nice. Is there homestay accommodation available locally or do we need to find our own? I would like to travel with the two girls doing the course so we will need accommodation for 3 with 2 doing the course. Can Azurlingua help with this?
“The school can only offer double rooms in homestay. They can offer accommodation for students who attend the course.
Eric, Admissions Officer from Azurlingua - Feb 21, 2023
Is there air conditioning in the classrooms at the Azurlingua juniors centres?
“There is no air conditioning at the Azurlingua juniors centres, only at the main school. All the juniors are redirected to the main school at the end of August and will have their lessons there. ”
Florent , from Azurlingua - Aug 02, 2022
I would like to have my lessons in the morning so as to be free in the afternoon. Is that possible?
“Students can't choose morning or afternoon lessons. They will be placed with the right group according to their level. The school usually has alternating schedules for adult courses (one day morning lessons, next day afternoon lessons etc.)”
