How our students rated their experience in Lisbon
What our students said about Lisbon
Lisbon is a light-filled inviting wonderful city with many fantastic perspectives. Tejo and the proximity to the Atlantic are simply enviable. The openness, friendliness and warmth of the Lisboetas - despite the vast numbers of tourists - is deeply impressive. Only the bawling groups of bachelor parties of all sexes are unbearable! Let's hope that Lisbon does not turn into a cheap party mile... This city and the Lisboetas do not deserve that!
Germany
Lisbon has a special soul and it can be found in every corner through the countless "pastelaria" and "jardim" with kiosks and seating options....Simply beautiful and cosy. The city is a mass of contrasts and offers so much to discover! I am thrilled!
Morocco
Lisbon is an attractive and appealing place with a special flair. Here you can feel comfortable. The climate is still pleasant even in November.
Germany
The best city I have visited !!! Small capital, full of charm, lots of things to do in the city and in the surrounding area. Amazing experience.
France
Amazing place! Would now live there if had the chance. Locals so friendly, trusting and helpful
England UK
Lots of fun, and interesting, but expensive (none of the museums and galleries are free).
England UK
it is a very exciting destination, there are so many things to do and see
Italy
A fantastically beautiful city, with culture, history and great food.
Hungary
For me, who has traveled a lot, it is my favorite.
Spain
Wonderful! Full of life. Café life is superb.

Most recent student reviews of language schools in Lisbon

The teacher (Barbora) was excellent! She explained great, there were good exercises, she let us discuss animatedly at times... Our group was great! I learned a lot and laughed a lot!!! It's a pity that I had to leave already.
Many thanks to the whole team!

Course: Intensive Course - 1 week
Student age: 60 years

The fact that you are taught by different teachers and are thus introduced to the language in a very 'diverse' way. The good atmosphere in the school.
The individual lessons in the afternoon advertised by the school are too much to cope with in addition to the 'full immersion' morning; the material can almost only be mastered by taking time out from the lessons to study privately, which is also confirmed by other participants.

Very well organized.
14 February 2023
Course: Intensive Course - 2 weeks
Student age: 72 years

I have learned a lot in a two weeks period, I understand the people on the street and I can communicate in a basic way. I am happy with the result :)
I didn't realise that accommodation with a host family would cost. I would have liked to have been told beforehand. But everything worked out and everyone was very helpful :)

Course: Intensive Group Course - 2 weeks
Student age: 26 years

Small school with very qualified and dedicated teachers. I would like to go to Faro next year to continue my learning for 2 weeks.
3 October 2022
Course: Standard Course - 2 weeks
Student age: 64 years

Overall, I found all the staff to be very friendly, personable, open-minded, helpful and dynamic. The two teachers who taught me during the time were very well trained and had a very good general knowledge. They helped to break down barriers in speaking with their uncomplicated manner.
I think it would have been helpful for me to define my language level more precisely. The placement (via the internet) is too general, and there were students in the course who could already speak fluently....

6 December 2021
Course: Standard Course + Workshop - 4 weeks
Student age: 64 years

I loved the methodology and the teaching staff, I have learned a lot in the intensive course, I consider it very good, and I would continue if it were cheaper because it is worth it. I recommend this school, I am very happy with how much I have advanced, and how I have managed to speak so much in such a short time. In any case, it has market prices, as many other language schools costs the same or more, and it works very well because the groups are small and very interactive...
I would not go to another one because I have loved Lusa Language School.

The quality of the teachers, some really incredible people, working methods and tools.
Paolo is the best teacher in the world.
13 February 2021
Course: Standard Course - 6 weeks

I got homework advice by email.
There are no shops around the school, so if you have afternoon classes, you should prepare something to eat.

Course: Standard Course - 2 weeks

Very nice people and good opportunities to get to know fellow students. Because of the small size, a good sense of belonging quickly emerges. I always find it particularly good to meet people from other countries and cultures.
Highly Recommended. Won't be there for the last time.
3 December 2019
Course: Standard Course + Workshop - 2 weeks
Student age: 60 years

Teachers and teaching were very good and efficient. I learned a lot. There could have been more varied activities organised by the school instead of just a dinner once a week usually in a expensive restaurant considering there are many really good authentic Portuguese and not expensive ones to choose from.

Besides the friendly enthusiasm of the teachers, I also enjoyed the relatively high-paced learning - I managed to learn a lot in only 2 weeks! Much more than expected.
I wholeheartedly recommend this school!

Q&A - Questions and answers about Lisbon
- Are there courses starting in the first or second week of June?“Yes absolutely, it is possible to start your course at the beginning of June. Subject to availability.”Melanie Besnard, LanguageCourse.Net - May 12, 2023I would like to take a course in Lisbon. In which language will the classes be held? In English?“Lessons at the schools in Lisbon are taught in Portuguese from the very beginning. They are designed to be intuitive, so that you can get to grips with the language right from the start. In extreme emergencies, individual things are explained in English.”Lisa Saskia Schiwy, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 17, 2023I am very specifically looking for a language course in Lisbon that focuses on "older" people. I will be 51 and would like to take classes with people of about the same age if possible - preferably not with very young people. Are there any language courses that focus specifically on that?“In Lisbon you can study and live in your teacher's home with the Study & Live organisation. This is one of the best possible options for learning a language quickly. You stay with the teacher and his/her family, allowing you to practice the language throughout the day. Even when you eat, as all meals are included. You can choose the number of lessons per week, and all lessons are private lessons with your teacher. So you can fully focus on your interests and make yourself even more powerful in mastering the language. If this is not an option for you, perhaps we can look at schools in Lisbon with a higher average age in general Portuguese courses: CIAL Centro de Linguas, for example, has an average age of 25 during the summer months and 35 during the rest of the year. Portuguese Connection, for example, has an average age of 26 during the summer months and 30 during the rest of the year. What you can also do is a mixed group course in the morning and some private lessons in the afternoon that you can really focus there on what you need. Let us know if we can help you decide!”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.Net - Jan 02, 2023
